Default Should I risk it?

Bit of a dilemma!

I sent my S for a check at the garage after I had a little noise (light scraping) and a rough clutch pedal when I depressed the clutch whilst in gear. So I sent it back to the Honda garage I bought I from, it's supposedly an approved used car, thinking it may be a release bearing etc. However, the garage took it for a couple of drives and ruled that out, but did insist my clutch is on its way out. Its not slipping, but its incredibly high and there's not much play. And THEN...they quoted me £1200 for a replacement, which I refused to pay and their replacing it for free. The clutch is high and after a long drive the clutch pedal does feel a little different and rough, however the scraping noise hasn't reoccured since the first incident.

So here's my dilemma...

The garage can't replace the clutch until the 27th! But I'd already organised a mini Eurotrip across France and Belgium that starts this coming Saturday. The trips is just short of 1000 miles and the whole thing has been designed around the beautiful S with the roof down and its great drive.

So, do I risk taking the S, and the chance my clutch may give out in the middle of Paris? Or, dish out £250 to hire a generic hatchback (Corsa/Golf etc) and just dream I'm in the S?

The hotels and crossings have been booked so I can't really justify not going.

Oh, and to add insult to this horrendous injury my GF's clutch went on her Mini as we dropped my car off at the garage! Unbelieveable! So her cars out the question as well!

Any ideas?

Me, I'd postpone the trip
Breakdown cover won't give you a clutch and a hire car just won't be the same

Don't really fancy relying on French recovery service to be honest.

Postponing would be ideal but some of the hotels I've booked have no refund policies which is less than ideal.

I keep thinking I should just chance it, but then I'll have to take it steady or keep to the motorways, which again is not what the trip's about.

Might just have to take the hit of losing the non-refundable hotels and crossing fees and go on one of those sun lounger holidays people talk about.

Stop abusing the clutch; rev-match perfectly & heel & toe downshifts. The S2K doesn't really like clutchless, except at slow traffic speeds.

You can nurse it for miles.

My clutch pedal is high also. Have you done the clutch slave rod fix? That is probably all it is. As I said my clutch pedal bite is right near the top and that was before I went on my trip to the ring!

Bet it's the clutch master cylinder or maybe the slave cylinder. Do the nipple polish fix and bleed the fluid, that may sort it.

Do a search for the nipple polish thing.

If it's not slipping then the clutch is surely good?
