Default Should I track the S?

As you know I only got my S2000 just over a week ago. A chance to take it on an 2 hour open pit event at Knockhill has arisen and the price is very good. I think it might be a good chance to get a better feel for the car and the way it handles. However, I'd also like to take it relatively easy as I don't want to knacker the consumables. The brake pads and tyres on the car are all fine and will do me a while in normal road use. I actually can't afford to replace them just now. If I take it relatively easy would one track event totally shred road tyres? I'd like to hope that if you don't go mad a few laps on the track with plenty of rest would be little different to a good country run in terms of the wear on the cars consumables.

There's a flaw in the plan Kenny. Do a few laps and then you'll be like "Sod the brakes and tyres, this is fun!"

Is the track day cheap? Could you do a half day which shouldn't punish the car too much? Or get chatting to other track dayers and get passenger rides in various different machinery etc. Taking passengers and getting rides is part of the track day fun. It's got me rides in the following NSX, latest 911 turbo, TVR, RX7, scoob, Cayenne , boxster, Caterham (driven by Phil Bennett, maddest ride I've ever had!), Maserati, RX8, M3 and a few others too. All part of the track day fun and lets you rest your car at the same time too.

Get it tracked; you won't believe how fast the S2000 is on the track. When I tracked mine, I kept thinking why are all these cars (Elise's, westies and everything else) driving so slow.

You'll only realise the full potential of this car on the track (and maybe not even then).

Unless you drive like a twat on public roads.

There seems to be a lot of support for this idea I guess if I did 5-8 lap sessions the car wouldn't get too shreded.

Get some gas tape/carpet tape and cover the front bumper, wing mirrors and the lower bit of the bonnnet, this will help you avoid stone chips. Whack about 36PSI in each tire and you're ready to roll.
