Default It shouldn't be this way...

I'm sitting here today and I have a slightly 'off' feeling in my guts. I'm nervous and a little worried. "Why Saxo", you all shout!

Because my car is in for a service! I'm too young to remember but I'm led to believe there was once a time when taking your pride and joy in for a service was a good experience. Where you knew it would be getting some TLC and would come back driving better then ever.

I on the other hand am panicing. I'm dreading the inevitable 'suck air through teeth' phone call where they try to get extra money out of me. I'm dreading the phone call where they just blame my idle problem on my aftermarket exhaust rather than diagnose it properly. I'm dreading them washing it despite being told not to. I'm dreading the cost of the service which will - as before - be 50% more than I was quoted.

TBH I'd rather buy 'Be your own Greasemonkey 101' and do the service myself but that blasted dealer stamp is so important to subsequent purchasers of the car. I'd even settle for being allowed to oversee them doing every stage of the work on my car!

Is it just me? Am I the only one that is so fearful of handing my car over to a Dealership?

I had quite a good sales experience with my dealer so I was less trepidatious when it came to its first service.

Turned out I had nothing to worry about - they checked out and fixed the various small niggles I had, didn't wash it (as requested) and picked it up & dropped it off.

Then told me about the 10% discount I had because I had bought it from them in the first place

i'm always nervous.

i never pay for extra work though.

ever since i got my calibra serviced and I accepted it was roughly double what it should have been cos they replaced (without asking) a load of bits (I was young and naive).

just get the stamp then run

I thought servicing costs were now standard for Honda, where a price is always set regardless, so you are fully aware of what you will be paying?

Obviously this will exclude brakes etc.

I have never had a single problem with servicing. In a few weeks my car will go in for its 5th service - 45k and every service up to now has been routine and without fault with no extra work required.

On a wet day I always expect a call to tell me some little c*nt has crashed it whilst giving it a "test drive". Check the colour of your oil (assuming it was worn and dark before it should be nice and clear now obviously), and also your air filter (a lot of dealers seem to skip this). I don't trust dealer mechanics at all these days.

I'm sh*tting it today. Its wet in Edinburgh and to expose the idle fault you need to do a few minutes of hard vtec driving and then come to a complete stop in neutral. In my text explaining the idle problem I even put that the rear tyres are getting quite low and that the aftermarket exhaust reduces rear weight so the tester should be aware of this. Cheeky yes - but I'd rather come accross as a c*unt than get that phone call!!

I would highly recommend City Hynland, in Glasgow.

The Service Manager there (Alan Cochrane) is top notch. Plus they tend not to overcharge or take the piss.
