Default So how does this work then???????????

I was driving home from Heathrow in the early hours of this morning, very nearly home on dark, twisty W. Sussex lanes through open farmland. I am completely alone - no one in front or behind, no oncoming traffic. Either side of the road is a widish verge, short hedge and fields. Absolutely nothing overhanging the road. Its pitch black....no streetlights.

I am trundling along 50mphish quietly listeng to the radio when there is the most almighty 'crack' as something very solid and hard hit the windscreen (which thankfully survived intact).

I cant imagine what it was or where it came from.........any ideas chaps?

Bird.....? Might have been an owl, or some similar nocturnal bird, given you were out in the country and its their natural hunting ground.

Maybe it was a cow taking a dump which shot over the hedge?

If you were in America I would have said terrorists as everything that has happened lately on that side of the pond has initially been thought to be the work of terrorists.

Over here, well, it was probably a David Blaine "stunt"

Thanks for the suggestions boys!

In order:

Owl?........Nope, certainly not - I have hit owls before and they make a very different noise!!!!!!!!!

Projectile cow shit?.......Again, not likely I feel - noise would be quite different to a sharp 'crack' and no sign of cow pooh on the car this morning.

Acorn?..........Possible this one, certainly I could imagine and acorn hit at ~50mph might make that sort of noise. Only prob. is a comple absence of all trees, let alone oaks, from this stretch of road.

David Blane?........I had not considered this, but the more I think about it, the more likely it seems. Thanks!!!!!!!!

Halucination?..........Again possible, especially given what ba/Oslo and LHR air traffic control had conspired to put me through. Bastards!

Ian - it could have been a constipated cow, therefore the poo may have been quite hard when it was launched/released...?
