Pre and post treatment, my roof went from a dark grey back to black, plus it beads water so much better, so personally I think its worth doing. Good luck with the hose ( or dare I say it, maybe even a jetwash - minding the seals and rear screen obviously)

I use a combination of Porsche techquipment shampoo and 303 protectant. The resuly is the roof looks at least as good as new - no patchines, no gloss, just nice, even, mat blackness - the 303 is only available in the States (as far as I know) but if you can blag someone to bring some back, I really can recommend it.

On thing tho - I do not spray it on - I put some in a bowl and use a small sponge to apply it. Works a treat

My soft top still looks ok , but am begining to wonder about future treatment ?

I am considering using pure silicone spray from Radio Spares , especially as the roof is vinyl , also so thought of using this as a door/roof seal lub , well guys what do you think ???????

It would be unwise to use silicone spray anywere near your paintwork, as it strips the wax of of the bodywork then goes dull. I use it at work for polishing C/F parts up but not allowed anywhere near the cars with it. For the seals I use Dow Corning Silicone Grease (Electrical Compound) as this has a wipe on application so that you dont cover everything else in it.

My knowledge if less based on personal experience and more based on hear-say than CG's - however, the advice is the same - I really, REALLY would not do this Chippo! There are plenty of tried and tested products discussed here, and especially on the wash and wax forum.

Go for something other people have tested on their cars on your behalf

It may sound a pain getting the 303 protectant from the US - but 1 bottle will last well over a year and it really does work!

I bet you can guess whose products I'm going to recommend

Zymol do a very nice vinyl treatment that can be used on both the interior vinyl (inside the doors etc.) and the roof. I rate it highly for the interior and there are a number of testamonials on their websites about its effectivness on vinyl soft-tops.

303 & Lexol Vinylex are very popular choices on the Wash&Wax forum.

Update.

Well Ross may be right, I've been out driving in the rain this morning and the soft top top does look much more even now. I'll see how it 'Weathers in'.
