...some advice...
hi all,
after a bit of advice as i'm new to jap car buying (always had VAG cars- boo hiss).
the mrs has just bought a c4 picasso which gives me the freedom to sell my 5 seat golf and replace with an s2000 which i have wanted for a few years now. initially looking to pick up a relatively cheap model with no modifications and have come across this in an independent dealership in Surrey;

spoke to the guy on the phone and it appears to be a pretty honest example, only thing he couldnt confirm was that it had its cambelt done at 60k (which he agreed to replace if he couldnt find the receipt in the meantime).
just wanted a bit of advice on things i should look out for on a model of this age/mileage?
any other advice would be appreciated... what it like for drinking engine oil?
final question, are those wheels stock? most of the models im looking of a similar age seem to have the 5 spoke.
cheers.

Good news first, the S2000 doesn't have a cam belt, so no need to worry there.
Those are not the standard wheels for a car of that age, which had 16" wheels, but they are the 17" wheels from a newer car.

But also have a read of this, which should help https://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=131836

cheers, those links look spot on...
maybe i can negotiate a saving with the dealership due to no history of the cambelt being changed...

I'd say the car is a little overpriced as well. Have a look at the cars up for sale here as well.

thanks for the link again, the price is broadly in line with the majority i have benchmarked on autotrader.
i am probably paying 5-10% more as i'm searching by trade dealer only as i have a car i wish to p/x.

Those wheels are much preferred to the 16' that come as standard too, to buy you would probably pay £5-£600 second hand, and over a £1000 to buy new.
From the side picture and the profile of the tyres I would say they were Bridgestone REO50MZ, you can check and if so these are the correct tyres for the car, and if the tread is good, upwards of 5mm you have a good set of boots that would also cost around 400 all around
If so this would suggest the previous owner knew a little about the car, and might also give you some more confidence in the purchase
