Default Sony MEX-1GP

Looks like the Modifry will work with it from what I can tell. Am very keen on something with onboard memory, although this only has 1GB, its all I can really find!!

And before anyone suggest an ipod hookup, I f**king hate iPods........never owned one and never will.

There are a number of Clarion HU's that have either a USB socket on the front or on a lead coming from the back of the unit - look pretty good too.

Just plug in a memory stick of your choice

Problem with a socket on the front is that the USB key will stick out and you won't be able to close the stereo cover. And on the back it means leads and finding somewhere to expose the connection etc. Just a pain.

The SD Card is an interesting option. What size SD Cards does it take? How have you hooked it up to your dash controls?

I had a Woodstock DAB54 head unit and it took up to 2GB SD cards. They had to be FAT16 formatted so I wouldn't think it'll take 4GB ones. That said, I found 2GB plenty as I could also bung a load of stuff on an MP3 CD too.

I just used the "My Briefcase" utility in Windows to sync the SD cards to playlists on my PC.

For dash controls, I went to the guy in my sig below, who was recommended by Blaupunkt's technical manager, himself an S owner ...

I have a sony mex 1hd audio library system, this will copy a cd onto its hard drive, it will hold about 4000 tracks. Expensive to buy when they first came out, but its a awesome piece of kit.

Interesting.....I did look at the MEX-1HD but it is long discontinued I think.

The SD Card is definitely an option - but if it only supports 2 GB........ and Modifry only seem to support Alpine, Sony, JVC, Pioneer and Kenwood - at least thats what their website states...

I had the Sony MEX-R1 with Buetooth in my S.

Very good bit of kit IMO.
