Unhappy Spare tyre question

Coming back from the gym tonight I got out of the car in the drive to hear a very suspicious hissing noise.... not good thinks I ... have either run over a snake or have a puncture
Closer inspection reveals a bloody great nail sticking out of the rear right tyre

Now comes the puzzle ....

Called the AA and a little chap came whizzing out in 10 mins flat (no pun intended) and put the baby spare on for me and then buggered off (after we discovered we couldn't get the flat tyred wheel in the boot). Only now when I come to check on it I see that we're not meant to drive with the spare on the rear or else bugger up the diff ... OK .. that's not fab but haven't gone anywhere on it so far.
Question is chaps and chapesses, what do I do now to get it sorted without having to drive anywhere???
(I know the manual says about putting the front on the rear and the spare on the front but this is coming from the girl that called out the AA in the first place!!!!)
Oh and I haven't actually got Home Start cover but they came out when I got feisty with them and told them I've been a member for twenty years and only ever called them twice before, but I doubt that that blag will work again sadly...

Anyone got any helpful suggestions please??

P.s. Please be nice I've had a horrid day!!

Quite frankly, drive the car slowly, use as higher gear at low revs, and I don't see what the problem should be. The manual mentions about putting it on the front due to unequal grip there for the LSD will come into play more often. but if you drive like a granny to get you home you should be ok.

I'm sure what the similarly goateed chap there says is fine but...

Actually...I was about to say swap em but really...a narrower front on the rear is what you already have. Drive at silly low speeds and get to your local tyre place asap.

OR drive very slowly to work and call out EventMobile.

(how are you anyway, long time no post )

whole thing is the tyre/wheel will not fit in the boot is what i thought was the biggest problem? so could you not call out somebody to the house to fix/replace new tyre and then change it over yourself?.

would have thought local dealer might be kind enough to help out.

hope you work it out though Kay.

Front goes on rear, spare on front, tray is removed from boot and put where spare came from & rear then sits in where the tray has been removed from.

Thats all from memorizing the owners manual 6 years ago!!

Is the correct answer, but Kay, I'd go with Chilled's advice. I had a puncture a month or so ago and just put the spare on the rear. Drove like a granny for the 2 miles to the tyre place, and then got the tyre repaired rather than replaced (which will also offend the overly precious ones on here ... ).

This was my nail, btw ...

there everyone ... I'm fine thanks Graham, have just been manically busy with work and life in general

Thank you for all of your advice ... Sooo wished I'd read this as work this morning now re Event Mobile ...... what a great idea!!

As it turns out today I've got things sorted in the end by ringing Lindhill Honda in Colchester and doing my little girl lost bit
I said to them about the spare and they actually said that there is often problems with putting it on the front anyway (and apparently it's an issue with the Type Rs too) cos you can't get it over the break caliper ... dunno if anyone here's tried this?? They did confirm however about the driving slowly being OK
As it happens I also need a touch up on the scratch on my wheelarch that I did last year reversing out of the garage AND the alarm has suddenly taken to going off whenever I get in and start the engine ... who says things don't come in threes eh??!!

Anyroad, they reckon that the alarm might be cos of the battery being a bit low, as I only tend to use the S at the weekends but they're gonna take a look at it for me.

I got my poor old dad to drive over to mine from Frinton today and pick up the spare keys and then drop them off at the dealer's. They then came round and picked the car up and are going to bring him back tomorrow complete with two new tyres on the rear, as my tread was well low and it was getting very "interesting" in the wet

The even better news is that when I mentioned my S2KUK membership they were more than happy to oblige!!

I my local dealer!!

I drove mine about 50 miles with the spare on the rear. I knew you weren't meant to do it, but I thought it was only about handling so I thought sod it I'll just drive slow. Obviously I wasn't pushing it, but it didn't handle as badly as you might think.

I stuck the tyre in the passenger seat after spending ages trying to work out how to get it in the boot. But now I know.

I'm amazed the AA would come out to change a tyre for you whilst you're at home.
