Question Speaker Cable Through To Door?

Hi,
HU working.
DCI working.
iPOD working.
AMP Working and positioned under Passenger seat (well it will be when the passenger seat goes back in)

On Saturday I'm cutting 10mm spacers for the speakers and running cable for the tweeters. Haven't a clue where to put the crossovers (they're a bit big) but probably under drivers seat.

I had a poke around on how to run the speaker cable into the door was looking at passenger side today haven't even looked at drivers.

How in the blue blazes do you get through into the door? And is it easier with the window up?

With pictures if possible.

Hi

I managed it a while back. In fact I took all my gear out of my car in an attempt to sell the car. I've decided to keep it so stereo going back in this weekend.

All I can say is it's a right PITA!

I know that I didn't try and get the speaker wire to go through the rubber grommets. I pulled the grommets out of the door (and car I think) and may have used a straightened metal wire coat hanger to feed through. This means that the grommets don't provide quite the seal as they did but I don't think it let any water in (doors are meant to let water down through the window and then drain at the bottom of the door anyway).

When I was done you could see the speaker wire running from the car to the door when you open the door. The rest of the electrics feed through a plastic tube if I recall.

Hope that's of some use!

Craig and I struggled with mine for ages to get them through the rubber grommet, but we did

Crossovers: under the dash on both sides for me. Passenger fits on top of the cover that opens, and drivers side shoved near the fuse box on that side

These are BIG Crossovers.

9" Length x 3 1/2" Wide x 1 7/8" Deep

The Panels a good idea. Does the panel hold OK?

Allan, check the Electronics forum FAQ. The grommets can be awkward to get back in . Plenty of lube is the secret

I did lots of lube, then couldn't grip the bloody wire

I'll have another go on Saturday. Was a bit pushed today, fitted the Amuse and had 1 almighty stuck bolt on the cross member. Wrestling under the car can be a bit awkward!

Let me help you out!

1) Get some twin & earth electric cable, strip it to the one core and strip a 5" section down to the copper. Cut the copper core @ 45 deg angle.

2) Splice your speaker cable to the other end with insulation tape, keeping the profile low so it looks like one piece of cable.

3) Slowly & gently feed the copper end through the grommet from the door side.

4) When you meet resistence give it a sharp push to pierce the grommet.

5) Pull it through from the foot well (may need foam and ECU shuffling out the way whilst you do this)

On to cross overs DON'T put them under the dash you WILL get interference from all the electronics and power lines under there (I did and it's a PITA having to move them around and rewiring to try and escape it)

Me I put mine in the door card to save having to put two cables through the grommet.

You can just see mine in my 04 car in the pic below. IIRC the drivers side one I cut a matching section out of the polystrene on the back of the card.

BTW Allan - Helfrauds sell Autoleads 10mm x 6.5" universal adapters in plastic.

the boston cross overs will fit under the dash, dont put them under your seats. the cable running is a great ball of joy, took ages but its well worth it.

i very much doubt you'll get the cross overs in the door cards i tried and failed so had to go under dash. logn as you dotn wrap then to calbes to much you'll not get any interference.

S2uk

All your old kit's going back in the car as we speak.

I took it all out to sell the car but now not selling!

About half way through. Amps + sub, headunit, ipod adaptor all in. Majority of wiring, just need to do front speakers/crossovers, save that fun for tomorrow when it's light!

One thing worth noting is just fitting the headunit with the 04 OEM speakers gives a dramatic improvement in sound quality. So if anyone is looking at a cheap stereo improvement just to the headunit first............ it's well worth it.
