You have no more than 35mm of room between the inner door skin and the area that carries the window up and down.

I have been searching all night regards to replacing the door speakers.

Im a little confused as to what will fit.

Am i right in saying, i will need some MDF spacers to fit a decent pair so the magnet doesn't hit the window. I see some people have 8mm spacers. Does this still allow the door card to fit properly as i don't want the door card speaker section to look different from standard.

I want to spend around £50 for a pair, does anyone have any recommendations. I saw that a few members have focal speakers which retail around £95 which is more then what i want to spend.

I have 18mm spacers and probably another 4mm of sound deadening and no problems with the door card. There is quite a bit of room there.

Personally i've always used focal speakers (even use their studio monitors at home). Have you looked around for something secondhand?

Alpine are also a popular choice.

I'm only over in Bournemouth if you want to have a listen to mine.

Hi Chris.

I have ordered some dynomat and will fit this at the weekend.

Sounds like i going to have to blow the cobwebs away from the wallet then and plunge for a pair of focal ones.

The spacers i have seen on ebay, although I'm not sure if they are any good, how can they be for £13 and made in someones garage. Where did yours come from?

I made mine. Jigsaw and some 18mm mdf

I also have some generic round eBay ones too as moisture has destroyed one of mine. Yet to see if they will fit.

£50 for a pair of component speakers (separate woofer and tweeter) won't be much of an improvement (if any) over OEM.

Why are you wanting to replace them? If it's improved sound you want, then replacing the Head Unit is the place to start.

Whatever you do (unless you're replacing broken speakers), put it off for a while and save up some more money.

i have JBL components in mine - worth saving up more than £50 for replacements
i actually spent around £200 on mine; 2ch amp, wiring, sound deadening kit, and a pair of components.

without an amp, you wont be able to hear it with the roof down.

depth isnt really a big issue unless you have deep units. my JBL's require 5mm spacing to clear the window, so any set of spacers will do it.
