Default Speed Camera Question

I went for a top down blast today after giving the car a good wash.
I was doing this until something made me do this then this and now I am doing this

I was travelling at 35mph in a 40mph zone when I passed a gatso. The gatso was on my left side pointed in my direction of travel. As I went past the gatso is flashed me 2 times. I was so startled I double checked my speed and I was well within the limit.
Another two cars were travelling in the opposite direction at that precise moment but their speed did not seem excessive.

My questions are :

Does the gatso measure traffic in both directions (this was at the end of a dual carriageway and the road was pretty wide)?

Are these cameras often calibrated and have they been known to go wrong?

Am I being paranoid ?

Any comments would be useful guys, this has got me a bit puzzled.

Latest ones I have seen have lenses pointing in both directions!!

Anyway, going down Soutra (A huge downhill straight nearby), there is a bastard of a camera right smack in the middle of it. It has flashed us several times before from both directions, when no other traffic was in sight, when we were doing about 62 mph (60 limit). We have never recieved any tickets or anything about it, so as long as you were under the limit, then you should have nothing to worry about. (You sure it wasn't 30mph limit?? )

Maybe the camera thought that it was such a gorgeous car that it had to keep a memory of it

Its more likely to be one of the ones going in the other direction anyway.

The local traffic cop who looks after the cameras here in Eastbourne says that when there is no film in the camera they widen the field of view so that it flashes in both directions to act as a deterrent.

I've often had a Gatso flash behind me just as I have just passed the end of the calibration marks on the road and it has always been due to traffic travelling towards the camera. It hasn't happened whilst I've been within the markings though. So provided the flashes are correctly spaced you should have no problems.

Hi there,
Has anybody used the 'reflective' cover for no.plates in the UK.
I was thinking of giving one to a friend who lives in London and drives
a modena 360.
Everytime I come over there I see more and more of these cameras.Hate them.

Ciao

When I work late my company very kindly pays for a taxi home. As usual I ended up with the driver that has to hold a conversation with you whether you want to or not. However this one was very informative about speed cameras and the fact that some are set up to go off at intervals even if they don

I had the same situation on the A4 recently. Call the local control centre and get put through to traffic police. Report the faulty camera and the time and date you were flashed. Ask for an incident number and they will give you one.

If you receive a fine letter then quote the incident number and let them know you reported a faulty camera. Then if it gets nasty you can ask them to prove that the camera was at fault.

I have heard nothing now and I know that the camera has for the time being been diasbled.

Sam.
