Default Speed cameras?

This may be a silly question. When I was driving yesterday a speed camera zapped me but was on the other side of the road !!! I dont actually know if it was meant for me? I thought cameras on the side you were driving are meant for you not ones on the other side of the road ? Also there were no grids on the road on my side ? I hope I havent been zapped !!!

anyone know ?

Some of them are crap.

There is one on the A1000 through Barnet that has consistently snapped oncoming traffic, irrespective of speed.

AFAIK it ignores everything in the intended direction.

This has gone on for years. (Welcome to Britain!)

I assume you've found another one.

You should be ok.

I'll look out for that one, next time I'm there!

They do go wrong.

My Dad was done up in the Highlands when he was certain he was below the limit.

He phoned the bobbies to complain and they said :

" Oh yeah - its not working properly. we've had hundreds of calls - don't worry about it"

We've got a highly sensitive camera by us on traffic lights. It zapped us on green. I kept a note of day and time but never heard anything. I see it go off all the time for no apparent reason!

Hi Woogie

Speed cameras have always had the ability to do you for speeding in either direction which ever side of the road they are on forward or backward facing!

But here is the big BUT not many have this facility switched on.

If there were no corroboration lines marked on your side of the road you are in the clear.

All this info comes from a very good friend of mine (a retired traffic cop) one of the good ones

same thing happened to me 2 months back. was doing 36 in a 30mph zone on opposite side and was snapped. have not received a ticket so far, so should be ok. not sure if it's true or not but cameras are legally only suppose to snap cars on their side of the road.

We've had an interesting development reported in the local press last week - two Gatso speed cameras have gone 'missing' after someone took an industrial cutting torch to them.

This is a shocking turn of events, and not something that should be in any way condoned or encouraged, I say.....

.... but if the bar stewards continue to fleece the motorist at every available opportunity, then what the fcuk do they expect????
