speed question
Hi all following some early morning speed testing on a long private road ( 4 miles )my 85k yr 2000 jap import s2k gets to about 130 mph quite quickly( in about 1/2 a mile) but dosent seem to go mutch faster.
I know the quted max speed is 150.
Its totaly standard apart from a k+n filter had a recent service at tgm and sems to run fine, I obviously warmed the cat up first etc etc.
what I want to know is should it get to 130 very quickly then take quite a bit longer to do the last 20 mph like my one seems to do or should it s progerssion through the range of 0 to 150 mph be more linear.
Any links to speed test data vids etc greatley apreciated.
Note I also have a honda firestorm ( motorbike ) which again gets to 125 mph quickly but takes mutch longer to do the final 30 mph to its 155mph top speed.
I guess it could just be down to areodynamics and the amount of power needed to get a car past certain speeds, I was once told that over a certain speed you needed massive incresses in power to produce only slight increaces in speed .
Note to the plod all speed testing was carried out on private roads and far away from the st wibble kitten sanctuary

Seems like basic physics to me.
Moving air isn't easy
Try opening a page from a newpaper - put it on a table - with a ruler under it - with the last 4 inches sticking off the end of the table.
Hit the ruler with your fist - and see how much the paper moves.
The faster you go, the more energy you need to make it happen, and it isn't linear.
Even Captain SLow took ages to get the last 15 mph out of a Veyron.
The only way I could see a top speed being reached quickly is if there is a limiter on the car ( eg Top speed is really 190mph, but it is limited to 155 )

Roof down, it really brick walls at 130 whereas roof up, it creeps beyond 140.
Resistance is a function of the square of the speed.
That's why the Germans make all these silly cars with cathedral engines, that are limited to only 155; you just hit the limiter quicker than in a car with the right amount of power to do 155.

My 2007 s2k keeps pulling fine all the way up to abour 145mph then starts slowing up.
Without any mods i managed to reach 163mph, now got a k&n filter and airduct, seems to get up to speed faster but haven't tried a proper high speed run.
