Default Speedo Lag??????????

now I've heard of turbo lag but never speedo lag

I had a Alfa GTV up my jacksie last weekend and decided I'd had enough, I am being a little careful so back off when I get near 100mph

Anyway there I am numbers flash 95 so back off..........only the number kept increasing and eventually read over the ton........I am sure this was not momentum

Anyone else experience this??

Quite frequently - the indicated rate of change can't keep up with what the car is actually doing. TBH, I've stopped looking at the mian speedo and instead rely on the GPS speedo buillt into the Road Angel. It's subject to the same problems, but to a lesser degree.

I notice this a lot. You accelerate out of a roundabout and then lift off because the speedo says 28. A moment later it's reading 38.

I never lift off at 28, I find 29 is perfectly acceptable

I've noticed this as well. Any chance we coud use this as a defence after getting done for speeding?

So how does the digital speedo actually work then? Or am I just being thick?

Can't say I've ever noticed this.

Does it affect all model years equally?

Check the speedo as you come to a stop. Definitely a 1-2 second lag.

The speedo is averaging the pulses over a period of time, giving lag going up or down. Some averaging is needed to stop the digits constantly changing, which can make the display unreadable. It's a common trait/compliant about digital speedos.

The rev counter is far faster reacting, and if you know what gear you're in you know the speed - at least at certain points. So just not what rpm for say 3rd gear @ 30mph on your car, and use the rev counter.
