Spindle Nut Query
Hey all,
Well in line with some peoples predictions my sodding "wheel of fortune" ticking/creaking noise has come back !!!
History - had some issues (1 being noise), took to honda grantham for inspection, they checked everything, (bearings, brakes, cv joints, diff etc (i've been told)) couldnt find anything wrong, put it all back together = noise gone.
However, a week or so ago noise came back.
Only happens when car been driven a few miles, not under harsh braking only everyday pulling up to junction/stopping etc, happens whether clutch in/out, seems to be a rotational clunk/creak, doesnt seem to have affected the car & doesnt appear to happen on corners, when turning, accelerating etc.
From the extensive searching i've done on the forum (uk&us etc), some of the original advice from people like Aldfort etc & as honda couldnt identify any issues with anything else, kinda narrowed it down to Spindle nut issue.
I've found the TSB for it & the process for how to do it.
However my questions are:
1) Do you think i am right in thinking spindle nut.
2) Would it need replacing or can existing one be used? (not sure what honda did)
3) After paying honda for inspection & it not being fixed i have any grounds to get it done for free / discounted etc?
4) Has anyone had to pay honda to this in the past? If so roughly how much?

its like a "wheel of fortune" when the pointer hits a pin. Almost or clunk/creak noise is the best way to describe it. Not a distinct bang or scrape.
It sounds 1 per rotation, but obviously cant be sure. That keeps going until the car stops.
Cant hear it when driving but if braking for junction/to stop/pull up etc, the with normal braking can here it when get about 25 ish mph down to stop. Cant hear if brake very gently or hard.

I doubt they would have undone the hubnuts and retorqued them as the nuts should have been replaced.
That should be your first port of call to fix this problem. The hubs nuts are not expensive and its an easy job to do.
You could potentially reuse them if you did the job yourself, but for the cost of them i replaced mine.

Well at this stage i'm not sure whether they did replace them & what they torque'd them to, trying to find out.
Yeah i agree first port of call, prob is i have literally no tools to do it myself, so may have to take it back to Honda.

They don't need to slip the diff out 
Once the hub/spindle nut is loose, the driveshaft should slide on its splines. One of mine was a bit rusty, but a good wallop with a soft face mallet free'd it up. The you could push grease in from both sides to get grease onto the splines.
I can't believe that your dealer would do it without fitting new nuts. The nuts are staked over to stop them coming loose and you have to deform part of the nut where it is stake to loosen them. One of mine split slightly where it had been staked when i levered it out of the groove.

Had a chat with Honda Grantham last night & they've agreed to do a free inspection on Saturday Morning & if i can prove that the TSB for this problem exists, then fingers crossed they'll replace the nuts, grease everything up & tighten to the correct torque setting.
Does anyone know a) where i can find the instruction & b) whether from experience Honda either do/dont like sorting this out?
