Thumbs down "spinning in the rain"

Can anybody tell me if they have experienced the same thing? I have been driving s2's for 3 years now and am on my 3rd one. I know they are tricky in the wet but 2 weeks ago my current one completely bit me back. I span 360% twice going up a slip road just off the M25 in the pouring rain. Luckly although i corrected the the slide the car suddenly snapped in the other direction. After pulling up the handbrake to stop the rear spinning and managing to point it in the right direction i must consider myself extremely lucky a) not to be in hospital & b) no damage to the car other than a new rear alloy due to ending up in the kitty litter.

I hate to second guess your dealer as they have seen the car, but how can they know there are at least no minor alignment issues without a proper four wheel alignment. For all they know you could have taken an earlier knock mounting a kerb for example which may have led to your predicament on the slip road?

IMHO it sounds like for your piece of mind, if nothing it else, it would be worth the

Up the slip road? You probably applied far too rapid an acceleration adjoining the motorway.

I know you say you have been driving these for years but I've followed an S that did exactly what you describe.

This car will *NOT* spin out on the straights without provocation, or hitting standing water, confusion of LSD, etc.

I assume you nailed it whilst adjoining the motorway.

360, twice, up a slip road. Thats some momentum you have going on there.

I advise slowing up.

I've put a separate post on about this sort of thing, just to remind people.

Hi mate

slip roads are notoriously slippy in the wet loads of S's say goodbye on slip roads!. usually lots of people gunning it in the dry on slip roads so lots of oil deposits and in the wet hey prest instant skid pad!

I have spun mine alot on the track I would imagine that skittish feeling you have is because you are now much more conscious of every bump and jiggle, I hope this doesnt sound patronising as its not meant to...

I did the same thing in a previous BM on the 25 and felt the same afterwards. In the wet aggressive straght line breaking, and on and offing with the gas pedal can make her twitch and if you loose traction either cos the road is slippy or one tyre is aqua planing then tails can swap in extreme circumstances.

Main thing is you are OK and can live to control twitches another day!

I drove 240 miles on Friday, up the M11, M25, M1, M6 - it was absolutely pissing it down. I was very worried about the cars wet weather handling as it was the first time I had really been forced to drive in bad weather. As it's 90% fun car for me, I don't go out in it when the weather is bad. After a few miles of taking it fairly easily I relaxed and had no problems at all. I had a few heart in mouth moments with standing water, it behaved the same as any other car and I wondered what the fuss was about....

I guess some people are unlucky / don't drive smoothly enough / drive too fast / have dodgy geometry / don't get the car's dynamics Who knows.
