Default Steering issues

Hello guys,

got in my car yesterday and drove off as normal.. noticed the steering was reaaally heavy and would not self centre, also no feeling of the road, etc.

Stopped on the side of the road and got my phone out, had a look at few options, such as re-calibrating the steering, dead steering racks, etc..

Today I have had a go at re-calibrating the steering with no joy. Things I have found:

the EPS light is on when the ignition is on, then goes out once the car starts.

the steering is lighter once the car is started, but remains heavier than usual

travelling down a road if I turn the wheel say 45deg from straight, the steering wheel will remain in this position until I move it

I have checked the fuse, checked the connectors, had a look for anything out of place, and all seems fine..

So not sure what else to try. Could it be a deadish steering rack?

Cheers,

Doyl

Not something simple like a flat tyre/low on pressure?

How did you try re-calibrating the steering? If your car is a UK model you will need a PGM tester to do the torque sensor neutral reset. As said above have you checked your tyre pressures? Have you hit any kerbs or anything recently with quite a bit of force? Stick a tester on it and see if any faults show up in the EPS system.

I followed this guide for the torque reset

https://www.s2ki.com/s2000/topic/860...#entry20481218

I've not hit anything hard.

When you say stick a tester on it, are they easy to come by?

All reset code reading functions are disabled in UK versions.

Honda's way of saying, lets milk that treasure island.

As Roids said above the paper clip tricks don't work on uk cars so that's why your torque reset wouldn't have worked. Most high end garages will have the tester needed. iirc the newer snap on testers have all the processes on them you would need. Failing that there is always the dealership.

I don't think the aux belt effects the steering?

All belts are fine!

I shall get a tester hooked up, and report back. For those interested.

Is that true? Or are you mixing up the lack of ECU codes via the paperclip with the EPS?

When you tried the reset did the EPS light flash where it's meant to?

The OP's problem sounds like geometry. IIRC you can test the EPS by putting the front on axle stands and starting the engine. If it has become confused, the steering will move one way or the other by itself.
