Default stereo dash control help

Hi guys and girls

I have a 99 jdm with a Alpine CDE-9850Ri head unit with the dash control lead, when i got the car and for the last 6 months everything worked great but all of a sudden this morning all other dash control buttons other then mute have stopped working, With the stereo flap open it works fine manually so im guessing its not the stereo itself,

Does anyone have any idea's as to what could of happened as im not looking forward to taking the stereo or dash apart to investigate

You need to find out what dash control adapter you have.

It may be the Alpine one, or one of the many aftermarket options.

Basically you need to take the stereo out to find out. Shouldn't be too hard for someone who can change an engine!

i shall go take it apart and have a look,
was hoping someone could give me some pointers of what im looking for whist its out but will do the usual checks of loose/missing wires

mechanical is easy for me as i find it interesting, electrical stuff bores me so i try to avoid it if possible but i will go have a play and see what i can find.

Check that the remote wire is in the back of the HU properly - otherwise it could be a blown dash unit for the stereo control. IIRC there is also batteries in some of the adapters

KCE-865B

Pretty tough to find nowadays, you may get lucky on Ebay.

Plenty of other options as well for not much money.

Autoleads do one IIRC - available via caraudiodirect and does a perfectly reasonable job.

Have a search for dash control or "DCI" for lots of posts and links on this.

However, if it's working and you get no more problems, I'd leave well alone.

Sounds like a blown dash control unit to me if the mute is staying green and the buttons aren't working. I did mine by sending power to the mute lead if I recall, or you might have shorted it.

I replaced by dash buttons for about £30 i think.
