Default Stereo help please

I have recently fitted a head unit with USB and aux in so I can connect my Ipod to it. At the point of fitting I could only get the basic harnesses so lost the use of the dash control whilst I could source the necessary parts.

I went to connect the parts today in order to restore the dash controls and they appear to be the wrong ones. As such I reconnected the stereo how I had it before and nothing happens. No power to the stereo at all.

So in one swift move I have gone from no dash controls to no stereo at all. I am trying to figure out what can have gone wrong in order to locate and swap out as necessary so any help from people who actually know about this stuff would be greatly appreciated!

Are there any obvious things I should check for first of all or is this just a case of take it to someone who knows what they are doing?

Thanks,
Ross

You need to check two fuses, one on the radio circuit and the other in the Auxiliary power circuit.

What model of radio did you try and fit and where did you try and poke the wires?

I will try to check the fuses in the morning, I guess that is just a case of finding the appropriate ones and checking with one of those light up screwdrivers.

It is a Kenwood KDC-W4544U. Only a cheapy with aux connections on the front. I haven't jammed any wires anywhere with the exception of all the usual wiring in the recess behind the stereo itself.

Thanks

I managed to blow the Aux fuse by stuffing wiring for the alpine to the right of the dash aperture - the radio needs both the radio fuse and the aux fuse to work. Have you checked to see if you have power to the Aux socket?

Did you plug the aerial back in?

When you say the aux socket what exactly do you mean? Also having just tried my electrical screwdriver, I think the bulb may have gone as I can't get it to light up on any fuses. Is there any other way to test them?

Yes, the aerial is definitely back in. Just double checked.

I think I am displaying the true meaning of little knowledge being a dangerous thing.

The auxiliary socket is the fag lighter type socket between the rear seats just below the central glovebox

Do NOT go sticking stuff in the fusebox!

Ah yes already checked that and it is working. I think I have a replacement fuse for the audio so will just nip out and try that.

Just tried the spare fuse with no luck. Still no power to the stereo.
