Default Strange noise from the rear

I've found that my car is making a knocking noise as I brake and come to a halt. The noise seems to be in line with wheel rotations and seems to come from the left rear. At first I thought it was petrol sloshing around the tank but the noise resembles a dull metallic klonk but not very loud. It does not occur when braking at speed, only when stopping to a halt.

I've visually checked the pad and disk there but they seem fine. Could it be a warped disk or a bolt missing or something? Braking performance doesn't seem to be affected.

Any ideas?

Which pads are you running, have you changed them recently?

Yeah, I know exactly what you mean Jefferson.

I have the same noise on MY00. I thought it was the petrol also because when the tank is fill it does not make the noise. It certainly seems more pronounced when the tank is down. It only ever makes the noise when stopping at halt and not slowly down at speed like you say.

I have no idea how it could suddnely happen, so I guess that it also must be something other than the petrol.

Let me know if you manage find out what it is and I will do likewise!!

Jefferson, any ideas on working out what the sound is? I still have no idea what it is on mine. I see the posts above mention pads and hubs, what do you think?

I had this once, and it was the bar in the boot (perhaps a strenghening bar?) knocking. I simply moved the bar away and the knocking stopped. Don't know if it is something similar in your case, of course.

I believe it is a hub or axle nut issue. Was reading something about it on one of the US forums. The noise only manifests itself at low speed due to the loose bit staying put due to centrifugal force when going faster.

Yes it could well be that after reading the threads you posted.

I suppose that the only way to sorted out is to get the car to the dealers; unless there are alternative routes to getting it fixed.
