Default Strong lacquer recommendation

I've had my two rear wheels refurbed and the fella said the factory lacquer is poor - polished lip corroded and lacquer coming off the spokes.

Can anyone recommend a good hard wearing strong lacquer in a can that i can buy (i think halfords stuff is shit?!??), i wish to spray my front wheels before they suffer the same fate as the rears.

UPOL any good?

Halfrauds do a PU laquer for the wheels thats better than their standard stuff and spays on pretty well for an aerosol. Upol are made in the same factory I believe amongst others so I wouldnt expect anything much better. Ive used a few cans of upol and found them to be worse than the halfords branded stuff

There is no such thing as a lacquer that will stick to bare metal ( polished / diamond cut alloy,s ) with anything like the durability you get with lacquer on paint .

The smallest chip will allow water/salt in that will lift the lacquer and allow corrosion to set in .

Hence the claims for replacement wheels under warranty in the past .

If you want to retain the polished lip you need to keep them cleaned and protected with something like Gtechniq C5 .

Okay thanks for clearing that up. The wheels are rota slipstreams and already laquered from the factory and come with a polished lip from the factory, so a normal spray laquer wouldn't work?

Tell me more about G5? it a permanent laquer?

Posh version of Rim Wax.

Unfortunately, laquered diamond-cut wheels are always gonna ba an issue as the tiniest ding/gravel rash lets the corrosion commence, as stated heretofore.

Get then PC'd a tarty colour instead.

Just a thought, why not get the guy who did your rears just to strip and laquer the fronts rather than a full refurb, at least he would use a two pack and bake them.

Most pro-detailers will not recommend having wheels re-furbed with a diamond-cut ( I,m not sure about polishing ! )as , has been said the clear coat will not take too well . as well as when diamond cutting you are actually reducing the thickness and therefore the strength of the wheel .

Gtecniq C5 is a nano coating that will stop brake dust and dirt from etching into the surface of the wheel and is also water repellent and makes cleaning wheels as simple as a quick wipe with a mitt , negating the use of strong , dedicated wheel cleaners and should also help protect from chips as it increases the hardness of the paint surface .

It also lasts upto 2 yrs .

I repolish and reapply C5 every spring although it is still working perfectly ! But I do suffer from OCD .
