SVA testing....
Does anyone have any links to any SVA related sites which state what things specifically need altering when SVA'ing a car? Ive looked on the VOSA website but its not very clear.
Im aware of things like rear fog light, EU standard tyres, speedo conversion but what else needs altering/changing? Some people say HID lights will fail etc..
Any advice/links would be great!
Thanks
Chris

it's all bits and pieces.. but failing the test is a hassle, so as suggested in the link.. the importer/agent is a good route to follow as they are doing this all of the time and costs are reasonable..
things I recall are fog light, immobiliser, fuel nozzle, radio interference? + avoid presenting a car that has been modified.

Yeah!
I need to know too as my car will be going in for ESVA test in a few weeks too.
Wasnt aware about the headlamp bulbs!!!
Anyone put their car throught the SVA themselves???
Help would be greatly appreciated
you have a choice for the headlamps.. either fit regular bulbs to replace the HID or fit the washer jet system.. and you can decide which is preferable, the lamps would be done as a temporary change.
however several cars have managed to get SVA without this
hence my point on getting an agent to do it.

I have a full SVA book from the Vehicle Inspectorate, there is a pdf somewhere on the web too.
However I'm building a kit so I need the whole book, I suspect it would be a bit time consuming going through the whole thing for an S2000 but I can dig out the link if you would like me to.

Fuel neck - Either fit a fuel neck restrictor or you can get a replacement cap that has a hole in the middle - cost me a tenner.
Fog Light - I bought mine from a scrap yard and fitted it to the bottom of the bumper - I mangaged to get the switch as well - switch must light up when on and be visable by the driver.
Tyres - I bought a second hand set of alloys which obviuosly had UK tyres on. I later used the JDM tyres as replacements.
Speedo - Again got one from a scrapyard, easier than getting it converted although I have heard that it just needs a wire soldering within the JDM unit. dont't quote me on that.
HID bulbs - I had mine altered by an auto electrician to lower the voltage and then replaced the bulbs with standard bulbs. I had it reversed after the SVA.
Alarm - needs a Cat 1 to go through the ESVA.
When I did mine there was still a loophole to not go through the full ESVA. I put mine through as a Disabled vehicle, which only needs to g through the SVA. This was on the advice of the the guy that worked at the SVA centre. I couldn't believe how matter afact they were about expoiting their own rules. Give them a call and they will advise you.
Sticking it through as a disabled vehicle just meant temporary installing a handle on the steering wheel, available on ebay for about 3 quid.
I failed the test the first time as I forgot to fit the fuel cap. re-test was really easy and only took 3 minutes. I just drove up with my fail report, the guy checked I had fitted the fuel cap and he handed me the certificate.
Don't be scared
Good luck
Link to VOSA's draft regs here, can't find the full SVA regs online, but I think this should suffice.
