Default Taking it to the track

Hi guys,

Looking to take the car on the track (to learn the car where it's safe from pedestrians and cops), has anyone done this? What is the cost? I'm assuming you have no insurance on it, is there one near North London area? Any info you guys have on it would be appreciated as I'm completely clueless regarding it.

Thanks,

Pt.

A number of people, myself included have been to Beford Autodrome. It's operated by Palmersport. The track was designed by Jonathan Palmer himself. It is very open, with very little armaco, ditches, etc. to hit. The main worry is other cars! The best circuit is the full combined course, with a decent straight ... I bottle out at about 125mph in the S2000. Some track days are booked direct, others through 3rd party organisers. If you call the main office, they can send you some details. Another option is the Type-R club, which arranges track days.

Some insurers may cover track use, it depends if you can persuade them that it is for driver experience and not timed. Otherwise, it is possible to arrange track insurance, although this can be expensive.

The location of the track should be second to the type of day you want - if you're a bit unsure of what to expect and/or don't want to be going round with a bunch of speed freaks, find a track day for novices or first timers. these tend to be on airfields which have large run-off areas, and you'll be with other people on their first or second track-day.
You can get track-day insurance, but you generally don't buy it in the same way you buy insurance for the road, you decide what value you want to insure (ie. you insure for

I'll second what RJ said. I've been to Bedford Autodrome on 4 occasions (all wet ) and it rocks. Its ultra smooth and the massive runoff area's give you the confidence to at first learn and then to test, yours and the cars limit.

I'm there a week on Saturday with RMA (rma-limited.com) doing the GT circuit. They are a proffesional bunch and can sort out insurance and offer expert driver training.

I have been on at least 7 bookatrack events and would also recommend them. (www.bookatrack.com)

I would recommend a airfield day for your first event though. Massive run off, so if you do spin you are not going to hit anything!!!

I'd really recommend checking that your insurance covers you for damage on the track emphasising that it is an untimed, non competitive event and failing that getting additional track insurance. I know of 3 guys who've suffered significant damage whilst on track

I took mine around Goodwood a few weeks ago as part of an E Type day. Interesting as it was wet and the jags were spinning! The organisers arranged insurance for an extra
