Autoglym do an intensive tar remover for the bodywork (it's basically petrol). Don't know if it would work on the carpet?

When I got grease on the carpet in the house I used white spirit to get it off. Might be worth a try?

Cheers,

Chris.

My little stain remover handbook suggests neat washing up liquid for tar on carpets. Work in with fingers rub with cloth soaked in warm water and repeat, repeat, repeat. Never tried this but book has worked with other stains

Ditto, but use some cotton buds with white spirit on, I'd be amazed if it didn't work. Might be worth getting some spray on carpet cleaning agent from Halfords afterwards to make it smell good again and remove any white spirit deposit. Good luck, Phil.

Now Mike don't take this the wrong way?
If Pink Lady, Scrappy or Esso Girlie had said "My little stain remover handbook suggests neat washing up liquid for tar on carpets" I'd have let it pass, BUT

Oh and for the smell, mix lots of BiCarb of Soda powder in cold water and pour it well into the carpet. Great smell remover, works wonders in fridge and Microwave.

Now where's me pinny, Ah must cut a hole in this one day!

From the man you gave you 'freezy spray' to get rid of chewing gum here is my solution

start by using a hot household iron, cover tar with loo paper and heat from the top to soak up all the (now) molten tar, keep using new pieces so it doesnt spread... finish by using a remover that was mentioned earlier (or petrol..... optimax of course) ........ if you dont use the iron method first the tar will spread and create mor of a stain...
