Default Telling the driver behind it's safe to overtake

There were a few times on Saturday's drive where I'd overtake a "civilian" who got themselves in the middle of a driving group, but with those windy roads that are fun to drive, you're often overtaking in tight spots without a lot of visibility.
So I'd find I'd get past, and then hang on for the next S to overtake too. There would be situations, where I could see the road ahead, and I could see that it was clear, but I could tell that the S behind me couldn't see as much of the road, so were having to hang on before overtaking.

In these situations, what would be the best way to indicate to the car behind, that I can see the road and there's room for them to overtake the car in front of them?

Move out to the opposite lane , keeping your R indicators on. .... that's what we did in WBT

Although I have to say if you are at all unsure don't rely on it (i.e. don't overtake purley on the faith of the guy in front)

As a helpful guide it is ok though.

Overtake when YOU feel it is safe.

I wasn't telling you it was safe to overtake, I was just avoiding a puddle!

Pretty much what we did on SM5 as well. We tended to straddle the centre lineso the driver behind can still see the road ahead. Several people were doing this yesterday on the drive.

Using radios can add another dimension. You say "it's clear after the white van" etc.

It takes practice and confidence and a good deal of trust to work these well. They're only guides though the final decision and reponsibility lies with the driver making the manoevre.

Plus, I tend not go completely over to the right hand lane, as I want to leave the guy behind as much of a view ahead as poss. I tend to just straddle the line.

Straddle the white line and use the right indicator. Equally, when you spot something coming, use the left indicator to signal that something has loomed into view.
