Agree with Jason

We've long passed the point where the power available in road cars is a waste of time

Pub bragging rights is all it's about really

It's September 1, not April.

No joke, Nick. If Op puts a bit of time and effort into upgrading his todger, he won't need a premium German brand car to make up for anything and he'll save himself the thick end (no pun intended) of £44k

I am a feckin genius

Just thought I'd pop in whilst waiting for a client to get here.

Saw this thread, read it, ****ing howling with laughter!

Personally, I think it sounds shit. It has 400bhp, but so what? It'll average 20mpg, and 15 if you tickle it.

So you have it as a weekend car, but it's dull to drive and the depreciation is huge.

I almost bought an M2, but looked at it deeper and I'd be putting 15k miles a year on it and I'd never take it on track. It was just a waste of money.

an M2 might hold its money ignoring the miles but fun is relative. They arent light, are designed around an econobox which is fundamentally meant to be dull and look a bit noddy. I dont get it. A 220 if you must and that kit car is a far superior proposition. Trying to make something a thing its not by adding bhp wont work. Make it better at what it is sure, a better econobox then.

It used to, when cars had pusillanimous iron boxes under the huge bonnets.

Dropping in something like a Rover (Buick) V8 worked wonders.

Those days are gone.

Well i guess the responses puts things into perspective. Sounds like a better investment dumping it on a SC.

If you consider it an investment, then the next question would have to be whether you expect a return on that investment. If the answer is yes, in my opinion you'd be better off leaving things as close to 'stock' as you dare and buying a beater to keep the miles down on your S. If fun and enjoyment are your main concerns, then go for it, although (also my opinion) I think a standard S in this day and age is fast enough and enjoyable enough without the need for additional power.

For the record, I'm quite intrigued by the new breed of 'hyper' hatches even though I do think the ridiculous chase for BHP is really getting out of hand. Personally, I'm quite smitten by the new Type R-one of the 'worst' of the new generation (according to the journos) so what do I know
