UK & Ireland S2000 CommunityDiscussions related to the S2000, its ownership and enthusiasm for it in the UK and Ireland. Including FAQs, and technical questions.
I had words with Chiu at the Chrimbo party so have made sure he 'get's the S (and spoke to few others on the staff!!) and as with ALL motoring publications and TV shows there's a mix of enthusiasts that can string some words together mixed with the journalists 1st, car people 2nd. Suppose it's about balance, too many of the former and the quality of the content and too many of the latter means a mag that doesn't know it's market. I think each publication/tv show has someone who is a car nut and can string words together well (like clarkson, vbh, sutcliffe etc.) although they invariably polarise some views as they say what THEY like
Regarding Test Drive, you gotta think of who it's marketed at. It's not for die hard enthusiasts (who have evo etc.) or 'gotta know what's going on types' who buy AE, Autocar etc. TD is more for 'proper' reviews of, mainly, normal accessible cars, kinda like What Car IMO but in a nicer more relevant and 'human' way.
Maybe it's no surprise regarding the Viz comment, AE, Test Drive, Evo and Viz are all in the same stable and some of us get them all free
I recently met the main publisher at Dennis Publishing and he's not exactly the biggest fan of cars which confused me a little. Testdrive is aimed straight at boring What Car readers, AutoExpress is their equivalent of AutoCar and EVO is really the only good performance car magazine as there isn't another one to compete. I think Car magazine is getting it all wrong at the moment and is not sure who its customers are. Personally I think TD is far better than What Car, but isn't anything new, its just another 'corporate' produced car mag which is likely to give the best reviews to the highest paying advertiser, but at least they have reader reviews of the cars too for what they are worth.
