[QUOTE=wadswoaj,Jan 18 2008, 01:48 PM] Did you miss the bit about me using the Racelogic Performance Box? Its the same GPS test gear used by lots of car magazines and is within 99% accuracy of the VBOXIII that costs around

Welcome back!

What happend to the Aston?

As for the airbox... despite the flawed test enviroment, I think you are right. In cold air in does not make much difference.

In hot air I also found the car "bogged down" a little.

If you want a decent sound... go get an HKS exhaust!

The Performance Box is an interesting piece of kit, not only can it record acceleration times as above, it is GPS based it so can also record lap times on a track.
You just tell it where the start/finish is and it will log all times.

It can also tell you how much power the engine is producing.

The lid serves a purpose! where else can you put your coffee cup as you fill the washer bottle.

What happened with the Aston?..... a baby...... so the Vantage is off the cards at the moment (wife doesn't drive and I can't justify having two cars when I can only drive one at a time).

Aston did lend me a DB9 Volante last weekend to see if we could live with one as an only car...... just about got the baby in the back but only with the other halfs seat in a silly position...... probably a no go as well but it was fun trying!

Managed a 4.6sec 0-60 in that and it made an amazing sound.....

I've never been a believer of having an air filter without a box under the bonnet of any car.Yes it will sound different or 'nicer' but at full chat the volume of air drawn is huge and sucking in warm engine bay air is never good.My opinion of course!
With the huge volume of air being drawn in, there is little time for it to hang around the engine bay and warm up.

I can't see it having a noticable effect. As the tests of the OP show.

It makes a hell of a difference when sat in traffic though. Much kangarooing when compared to having the lid on. And for some reason, I always think the throttle's a tad sharper with it on. Don't know if that's anything to do with the difference in resonance/standing waves between lid on/off.
