Default These just in..

I ordered these from the Market Place here on s2ki. They looked to be good and I like the fact they have separate ride height adjustment from spring preload. And the price was VERY right. All reviews seem very positive on this lot, from the scooby and evo boys too.

32 clicks , all I need is 3!

You can order these with anything from 10K - 14K springs since the dampers will handle +/- 2K off from 12k. I got the 12KF / 10K rear combo as similar setups from KW and Tein in the SCC suspension comparo seemed to do quite well.

I noticed however, that the 10k were on the front and 12K on the rear. I alerted the seller to this and he said this was the 3rd case of this happening. No biggy - just swapped them around after taking note of the pre-load on the springs based on distance between top spring seat and the spring perch. At least I got to pull them apart and put them back together as an exercise.

The rear one pulled apart:

Difference in spring lengths - 12k shorter

The two rears side by side, one with correct spring (10k) and one with wrong 12k.

These will be fitted on Friday. I will let you all know how they feel. Will be corner weighting this weekend at the stock ride height or maybe 1cm lower since I have some wicked speed humps to deal with around here.

Would I need half shaft spacers for a 1cm drop?

Speed humps in Trinidad - we would never have believed it!

(I remember talking on ham radio to a guy called Sing, who ran a post office on Trinidad. His address was Morne Diablo, The Post Office, Penal. Do you know him?)

It was ages ago!!

Hard to tell.

You really need to suck it and see.

If you get vibration, then yes.

If not, then you are good to go

Looked at the BC items, and some of the write ups are pretty good.

Not quite sure about the spring rates on our roads (Although reports from guys running these type of damper/springs are that the ride isn't too bad), but may be fine on your roads

What you guys still doing up?

Yes, speed bumps are everywhere they shouldn't be, including right outside my gate on a dead end street. Go figure. But alas, they are about the only things that get people to slow down here - heaven knows traffic lights and speed limit signs are ignored for the most part.

There are about 1/2 million Singhs in this country! Penal is pretty far through some sketchy roads from where I am. How long ago are you talking about? Ever ran into a 9Y4RB in your ham radio travels?

I am banking on those reports being accurate and not the "since I bought them I may as well rate them even though they stink" types. If you think your roads are bad....

These days I rarely use the car except for AutoX and whatever else auto sport of the road racing type is going on. That is why I decided to go with these heavy rates - may as well max out for racing/sport driving for the budget if it is not DD.

I am on holiday and drinking plenty of Talisker Single malt

I know that callsign from IOTA, but don't have it looged as far as I can see.

Yours?

No, my dad's.

OK,

So now they're on the car and I had a drive over the usual roads. The height is set to stock in front and just 10mm lower in the rear. All that will be dealt with during corner weighting. No geo work done yet either.

My first impression is WOW. The ride is stock or softer ! I was fully expecting a very jarring ride given the 12k/10k setup vs the stock spring rates. I have the front dampers on 15 clicks out of 32 from softest and rears 10 clicks/32.

I went banging over all the man hole covers, wash boards etc., and really, these COs are extremely livable. I am beginning to question the stated rates. Of note though, the small ripples or sharp sinks are a bit harsher than stock, but not the big ones, which seem softer. I guess at these settings that means it resists quick changes more than slow ones?

Dive on braking seems reduced though. Didn't try anything to dramatic yet, but at usual road speeds, dive is almost not there. No chance to evaluate body roll yet.

I will try some harder settings over the weekend. I think the rebound in the rear needs some more damping. A smooth low hump in the road tends to send the back flying up faster than usual, un-weighting it more than stock which means bad for if you meet something like this in a corner at speed. I reckon harder settings on the damper should fix this.

Overall impression : A+ compared to stock. The only shortcoming would be the lack of separate compression and rebound because I feel the compression is good at these settings but rebound could be a bit harder. Otherwise, my biggest fear is gone - it has not turned the car into a track only daemon. I can still take the birds out

Cool, found this thread on the need for half shaft spacers after lowering. All is well - none needed.
