Thumbs up Thinkin of buying ! Advice

Hi all,

After a bit of advice please as i'm not far away from buying my first S2000.

Last week went to look at an '02 (2nd rev i believe) 45k berlina black with black/red interior.

The car is completely standard, full honda service from new everyone done on 4,5k bar one of them think the 22.5k. Recently serviced about 50 miles ago, not a honda dealer though a local specialist. 4 new tyres, the owner is the 2nd owner & has only had it for approx 6 months & is only getting rid cos has hurt her back & cannot get in & out of it.

Bodywork has a few minor scratches & stone chips for the year obviously. Wheels in good condition.

MOT march '08 & 6 months Tax

First thoughts price is cheap, however as the service history is not a Honda one that is reflected in the price. To give you an idea I pad 13750 for mine, same year better colour ;p with a full honda service, several more owners, bought from a main honda dealer with a years warranty. Check what the tyres are on the car, the correct tyres for the car will set you back 350.00 all round Bridgestone RE050A is what you are looking for on the revision of car.

Bodywork scratches for the year to be expected i guess. Give it a good look over, a test drive if you can and I am sure some people here will chime in with anything specific to look out for. Sounds like a bargain to me.

not expensive or particularly cheap

plenty around with lower miles too

'specialist' servicing won't do the value any favours at all - S2000 servicing is not expensive, and Honda dealers are not exactly hard to find

I wouldn't be interested in a car whose owner was obviously trying to save a few quid

have you read the faq?

simmos2K - The service history is full honda up to the last one. & also in response to warranty thats kinda why i'm paying the extra for a full RAC inspection. (i know not the same, but best can do when buying private i feel)

As for what to look out for, i've looked as much as i can (not very mechanically minded) with all the tips off the site & obviously done the usual. Nothing stood out to me.

As for the tyres, they are Avon's (slightly different sizes front to back i believe). Also i know these aren't recommended tyres, but i intend to give the car full respect & learn very slowly with it as its my first RWD

gaddafi - as said above the only "specialist service" was the last one & i believe the one done 4.5k before was Honda. Think the only reason it was done there was a friend through the police force or so i gather. The owner now is a lady owner & it was bought through a before hand from a garage.

Yeah read the FAQ, see last post

I think "this all screams owner that doesnt car" is a bit harsh? Just cos 1 service which she's adhered to even though selling it aint necessarily a bad thing. She's not a massive enthusiast as some aren't & yeah ok, tyres are not the bridgestones but people seem to argue on here about tyres anyway.

do you want advice

or to be told the decision you've made is the right one?

you, by your own admission, know very little about the cars

I've owned them and know them

the sellers have all the answers don't they?

selling it because of a bad back

and got it serviced by a Policeman friend

what about the tyres

a mate works for Avon?

buy the car then mate

and live to regret it

I'll enjoy reading about it on here

except I don't think you'd want to post about the problems you'll inevitably encounter

BOAB01 - fair comment on the tyres, from what i've read here i think it would be a good idea, but think i'd need to do my research also though. Or i might just book myself onto a drving course to learn the car & thrash the crap out of them, then at least they'll be used

cheers for the positive comment though

GADDAFI - Ok, firstly kinda hoped the post wouldnt have attracted people that are just going to get shi*tty. Agreed i have asked for advice, & you have certainly given me some. However, why you feel the need to structure your response in a "HOW DARE YOU QUESTION ME, TAKE MY ADVICE OR STUFF IT APPROACH", is firstly not what i feel is necessary as i meant my responses you to be polite and to provide further imformation. Secondly, as you've reacted in such a manor, whilst i am grateful for you taking the time to read & respond to this post, personally i wont be taking your advice on board.

Other uses: Unfortunatley i have seemed to some how annoy someone???

Thats not what i intended with this post or my reponses. I'm simply after some friendly comments as to how current owners think about the purchase.

Cheers brent

Have a close look at the suspension. If there is a lot of rust the chances are the bushes will be seized. Ask the seller when he last had the alignment checked. If he doesn't know what you are talking about walk away.

If the alignment is out of spec and the bushes are seized, a common problem on these cars, it costs thousands of
