Default Thinking of getting an s2000...advice!?!

Hi all,

ive been driving Hondas for about 8 years now and currently drive a delsol SIR and looking to move on to an S2000. For the money i want to spend i am probably looking at a 99-02 model. I dont do many miles (about 6k a year) and would need it for my daily driver in all conditions. Ive read an S2000 without traction control is terrible to drive and will most likely result in me being in the ditch or the other way round on a road but surely there not that bad!?! Ive never ownened a RWD car before and although i dont really drive quick, i like to give it some gas on a straight but dont plough round corners.

Any advice on S2000's would be greatly appreciated

Thought id include a couple of photos of my current SIR for you all...

Hello and welcome - Have a look at the FAQ here, which'll tell you most things you need to know, and lots you probably don't! https://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=301506

I have an 02 car without traction control and it's been fine, just drive a bit slower when it's wet and slippery. I came from a "proper" CRX (MkII VTEC) to the S2000, and all's been fine.

Welcome!

Love the pics. A beautiful car in superb condition.

Stating the 'blindingly obvious', a RWD car has different handling characteristics to those of a FWD car! Just take it easy until you have found out what they are.

Make sure you look at the For Sales on the forum.

cheers bud, it does get pampered rediculessly, not done many mods other than full same colour respray, refurb OEM wheels, DC2 gaiter and knob,EK9 oil cap, EF CRX sir rear badge and EG6 front splitter and colour coded skirts. Too many butchered Sols out there these days IMO that give um a prety low image with other honda enthusiasts.

Just finished waxoyling it last week actually, could eat your dinner off it...well...almost.lol.

Its actually gonna be sold as soon as i find an s2000 im happy with, infact its kinda for sale at the min on delsoluk, the plan was to sell up and get something more practical (EP3 type R) then got carried away and ended up wanting an S2000 since ive always had a soft spot for um.

One thing to definitely check, if you haven't already, is how much your insurance is going to be, you may be in for a bit of a shock.

im bit of a honda nut, i like all the crx's i came from a 05 ep3 myself, brilliant car with a cracking engine and very practical, although boy racers seem to have taken them all over now. Never thought id get rid of it, but now i have the s im glad i did, everything about it is cool, lol. Its a lot more fun to drive using the rear wheels, and having the roof down, plus a better image. Insurance is high though. How much you after for the crx?

Your statement about the boy racers I'm afraid is quite true, I looked at 3 and had been looking for ages but even the good ones were poorly treated, I traveled 250 miles to see one described as mint but was very badly rusting and scruffy, I challanged the chap saying he had wasted my time, to which he replied 'it's bound to be a bit battered...it's a hot hatch!'

That made me look at s2000's since they seem better treated (and far better looking if the truth be told)

insurance wise I'm looking at 770.00 fully comp with protected ncb (based on a 2001 number plate off autotrader. I'm 27 with 9years ncb and no points. So shouldn't he that painful.

Are s2000's prone to rust anywhere?

Also am I right in thinking if the car is pre 2001 the tax will be based on the old 'over 1.4' fee and for post 2001 it will be based on omissions?

In term of your tax question if the vehicle is registered after the 23rd March 2006 then you will pay the full whack I think it's in the region of 400 odd quid.
