Default Thinking of selling the S for

Just to add to the rash of posts recently about people selling their S, I am also thinking about it.

As the title says I am toying with the idea of an 03 WRX STI (so not the bug eyed one).

I know some people have come from Impreza's so was just wondering what the general consensus is?

good choice in my opinon, i did look at these but the running costs / theft and the amount that get pulled over in my area swayed me away from one. just dont need the hassle of it all.

They are ok, very fast point to point, but a little boring at the same time. I like to be more involved in the drive. Fuel consumption and running costs are rather high too.

I also considered one, (driven one on a track) but I am always put off by the image and interior.

Competely different cars IMHO. Assuming its just 265bhp and not PPPd then it will feel faster but in real world terms won't but much faster (especially on a roll) if at all. You'll love the all weather surefooted handling but miss the finess and control of the S2000. You'll love the 5 seats and a good boot but miss the folding roof and excuse not to do the pub run. You'll love the attention but then realise not all of it is as positive as the attention the S2000 gets. You'll love the fact you can spend money on worthwhile mods - your wife and bank manager won't!

It's by no means a bad choice of car - I'd have one myself but you need to be clear in your mind that you are moving from a 2 seater rwd sports car that carves its path through the road with grace and finess to a jumped up saloon that hauls itself from one side of the road to another in a most brutal and unsophisticated - yet effective - fashion. If life was fair we'd have both. Having had both I'd have the S2000

Fair point re: running costs. Scoobys are a money pit by comparison!

Would your budget stretch to an Mk 4 R32. I had one of these and apart from my current car its the most fun I have had in a car. It had everything, good grip bags of torque extremley understated, roomy, the seats are just fantastic. Only downside was 22 MPG, 28 on a motorway. I seriously loved it, It sounded lovely too. The good thing is that there are so little of them around and with the new one looking like shite and the stats not being that much different I dont think they will take too much depn. 18k wil prob get you an 03.

My 2 penneth, as some of you know I have come from Evo land to the S2k. I had a 300+ BHP Evo VIII so can be fair in my comments.

The STI/EVO ect... are all fast motors and do execute this in slightly different ways. I went for an S2k after going out in my mate

That's exactly what I get in the S, so no real difference.

I thought a STI would be more like 16 normal and 22 motorway??

Dont do it... A friend of mine bought the EVO 8 and sold it after two weeks because the consumption was very-very high. At the end he bought an S2000. He said that the fuel consumption is similar to the Impreza that you are after.
