Default Throttle Cable Advice

Hi Chaps,

I have been reading through the FAQ's and noticed the section that makes refererence to the kangarooing tendencies of some S cars! Its something that has bugged me since i picked the car up on saturday but i just assumed i was being too shy with the loud pedal . Anyways I thought I'd pop out to the car and check the things that i could check manually before taking a trip to Honda! First things first, the throttle cable! Result! It had at least an inch of play in it, ridiculously slack. Anyway i have tightened it and given it about 1/4 inch of play at the most and the throttle seems much more responsive. The drive to and from work tomorrow will be the test run! Anyways, to the point. The two nuts used for adjusting the cable are almost at the end of the thread (to the left hand side of the thread if you are stood looking from the passenger side of the bay). Does this mean i may be due a new cable? If so how much am i gonna have to expect to cough up? Any advice appreciated!

Thanks in advance
Mick

Mine's like that too. It really isn't an issue, as long as the nuts are tightened up enough, as far as I know.

Mine was like that when it was new so I don't think it has anything to do with the cable stretching.

To get rid of the play and still have some adjustability I added a spacer at the other end of the cable in the footwell.

A rubber washer 1/4" thick with a cut to the centre so the cable will push through it would be ideal but I didn't have one so I used a Dremel felt polishing wheel.
With a small cable tie around it it to hold it in place it has worked OK for 4 years.

I also tend to give the throttle a blip as the lights change to draw fresh cooler air towards the intake, found this helps too. Cable tension sounds ok, it's probably stretched all it's going to (if it does stretch) by now.
