Default Ticking noise

Does anyone else's car make an occasional ticking noise when stationary, both engine on and off?

I'm thinking its just things cooling but am not certain.

It sounds like its coming from either underneath the car level with the driver's seat or occasionally from up front?

i hope my car's not ill already!

Ticking sounds while the car is cooling is very common. All my cars do it after running for a while.

Mine ticks quite a lot, more so when it's been on a long run - it's usually the catalytic converters cooling down.

Not sure whether that would be what you're hearing though, Ben - the location makes it sound as if it's something else. Still, I wouldn't worry too much.

Doesn't sound like exhaust cooling - its more of a single "tink" noise at 30 second intervals or thereabouts.

Not too worried yet....

Mine does this after every run > about 3 miles. I parked near a Boxster S in the underground car park and they were both "tinking" and clicking in unison. Just sounds like metal parts contracting

Its the cat but also, when youve switched off you'll occasionally hear the 'distant foghorn' (great description) which apparently is something to do with vapour capture in the fuel system.

Have you checked for bombs or is your car clockwork !!

Mine tings away for about an hour after use as it cools. This has happened less as I have had it.

Mine "tinks" a lot after a run - so does Amanda's Civic and my old CRX, also the Integra R and Civic Coupe before that.

The Peugeot and Fiesta don't. Must be a Honda thing.
