Default Timing chain...or TCT itself?

I am aware of the usual rattle type sound given off by the TCT when it is on it's way out.

Just noticed earlier today though that after a warm start the rattle noise continued for about 20 seconds and eventually stopped. Before this though the noise has only ever lasted about 3 seconds in duration. Does this indicate the TCT is getting worse and needs to be replaced or is something else the cause? My car is quite "ticky" when idling also which is starting to bug me....Would it all be related?

Should I just bite the bullet and take it to Honda...I don't want to be ripped off

refurb the TCT first - it'll cost you a fiver, half an hr with a spanner, 20 mins with a copy of the yellow pages and 10 mins to read the how-to on here.

tickin at idle is probably your valve clearences. It's an easy nough DIY though filldy. Can be done for about £100 but you'd need to drop the car off at 9am and pick up at 5 because the engine has to be stone cold.

No don't take it to Honda, they don't know anything about S2000.

There is a forum member who do TCT refurbish here for just a few £, maybe worth getting one from him first, if its still rattle then look into something else.

Yeah, I spoke to lofty but he is not longer refurbing the TCT's and I am not sure if anyone else is? If so I would gladly give that a go as I am not too bad with a spanner

Anyone know if anyone else is doing the refurbed TCT's?

Thanks

My reckoning is, you need to top up your oil. Mine does this when it needs about half a litre
Then it goes away... completely. Make sure you do the top up properly though, warm engine 5-10mins. Switch off. Level ground then take 2 readings. Each marker is 125ml from what I remember. What oil are you using, and when did you last change it?

oh ok... sure it doesnt even need 250ml? I think with mine, once my oil drops slightly it can start to make the rattle.

Im going to look into getting a sand blaster and do this myself after xmas. When i'm confident i'm competent, i'll offer as a service

Will double check, but pretty sure even after the full change and check that on a warm start it did the rattle on a warm start.

I've only learnt this since knowing my car is a drinker... bloddy thing is sensitive to its own oil addiction. I should sent the car to oil-oholics anonymous. Still, plenty of oil left in the drum in the garage. About 11 litres left
