i use TomTom2 on an ipaq with navman Gps sleeve. I also use trafcam software for gatsos.
take alook at www.pocketgps.co.uk. be careful about bluetooth gps as the site has run a survey and half the owners of such receivers have experienced hardware failure.
take alook at www.traffic-i.com as an interesting alternative

GPS is superb. I spent a long time researching this before I bought. The pocketgps site is the best (most comprehensive and independent) around.
TomTom is by far the best software, I am impressed with it's easy interface, ability to guide you and recalculate routes. Although Postcode address finding is fiddly (but so are many others). If you know where your destination just find it on the map and hold down the screen and choose Navigate to. It'll take you right there.
Buying separates might save you money. The HP 1910 is a neat little unit. Buy the GPS9532 Sensor with RJ11 Cable (require Serial or USB Cable) from www.tdc.co.uk - cheapest by a long shot including charger/connector cable. Contact Linda Fricker; linda@tdc.co.uk who gives excellent customer service.
The GPS9532 comes off in independent test as the best receiver on the market, it is quickest to pick up a signal. TomTom OEM/rebadge it with their bundle pack.
The cheapest software is totalpda.co.uk but be prepared for slow delivery despite what they say.
Mine runs fine off an IPAQ 3630 (very old IPAQ) so you don't need the latest one for it to work well. If you are thinking of going bluetooth, cool yes but one possible drawback is you keep needing to recharge the GPS receiver which could be a pain on a long journey (when typically you need to use the device).
I have managed to fit the receiver non-intrusively but in such a way that you don't see any cables.
Good luck with it. And it's a cool toy as well. Enjoy.

What a coincidence - I bought one of these :
http://www1.euro.dell.com/content/products...c=uk&l=en&s=dhs
with TomTom navigator yesterday - hopefully to be delivered in a couple of days.
A colleague already has the Axim and its VERY impressive.
I'm installing a wireless access point on my home LAN later this week and intend to use the Axim with it.
What did the reviewer say about Tomtom ?

WTF you playing at? I'm patiently waiting for a test report/ verdict!
I decided in the end to just get the pocket PC first, and I plumped for the Ipaq 5500 which overall, I'm pretty chuffed with as it has wireless networking and bluetooth capabilities straight out of the tin.
I have a few queries, if I can just pick the brains of the more enlightened.
(1) The volume output from the 5500 is disappointing considering it's the flagship model. Are there any cradles on the market which amplify the internal speaker sound?
(2) I don't particularly want to go this route, but could I use a bluetooth headset to achieve the same thing. (More volume)
(3) Presumably I now have the choice of going for either bluetooth or wired when I get the GPS receiver?
(4) Does a bluetooth receiver have to be separately charged up. Can it be hard-wired into the car?
Dumb questions probably, but thanks in advance!
OT alert, OT alert.
I saw your name Tonky...I`ve been playing PGR2 on the Xbox quite a bit, the best handling car in its class, by far...guess what? CTR. (Ths S in its class doesn`t feel too hot).
Its the one to go for boys!
Back to GPS now!
