Can't you get the upgrade to version 5 for free? With the TomTomGO you can upgrade for free...... however if you want the latest maps and full postcode support you do have to pay.

So far I've just gone with the free upgrade on my GO...... version 5 is a big step forward compared to previous small changes. I've been using it for a few weeks with no problems....... main improvements are (in no particular order) a compass, navigate to city/town centre option, full postcode support (but only with the new maps), visual route demo, intinerary planning with savable routes and waypoints, speed sensitive volume control (can't remember if this was new in v5 or v4).

Well worth the trouble to upgrade
I got as far as the free upgrade onto my notebook.

Whilst downloading, I read what the free 'upgrade' actually did & haven't bothered to download to the TTG!

I might as well hang on until I actually need new maps & do the whole cabootle.

Bought the upgrade for the Palm T3 for 59 euro's, awaiting delivery. Pretty sure there was a mention on there about it comming with new maps. Will twiddle thumbs until then.

Its worth the 5-10 minutes it takes to upgrade (make sure you backup first just in case)...... I use the itinery planning and the navigate to town centre options all the time now.

The speed sensitive volume control is good as well!

[QUOTE=CiderBoy,Jun 9 2005, 10:49 AM] Random thought: is it possible to make the Tom Tom do an audio warning as you approach a specific type of POI

Yes but you need software version 4.21 or later...... each POI can have a warning sound which can be triggered at different distances.

E.g. I've got the fixed speed cameras set to a warning tone at 300 yards if on the road I'm travelling....... mobile laser sites are set to a differnt tone and 1000 yards distance. Shell and BP stations have a bugle when within 2 miles of one.

You set the sounds up in the POI menu.
Thanks! Not had time to have a look yet, but great to know it can be done!
