That test gave these times:

Porsche Boxster 986 - 1:37.0 (very wet)
BMW Z4 3.0 - 1:37.3 (very wet)
S2000 - 1.37.4 (very wet)

My wife says I watch top gear too much, and she may be right. When you watch the 3 cars to the laps, the S is the only one that has its wiper blades going, which makes me think it was driven when the weather was at its worst.

JC always says that you can take 4 seconds off of a wet lap, so the S would be lapping around 1:30.

What about the other 3 seconds then?

A 1:37 wet would probably translate to a 1:34 or 1:33. I suspect it's between these two times:

Volkswagen Golf R32 1.33.2

Ford Focus ST 1.34.9

They are very very well balanced cars though, and in the wet that would surely be a huge advantage.

Yea, but can you whip the roof down on them, and, one of them's a ford.

Can somebody put me right here:

The R32 and Mucus ST have ever-so slightly slower 0-60 times than the S, as far as I'm aware.
But, the S isn't about 0-60 times cos of the lag before vtec engagement? From what I've read, the S is more about cornering and general track ability (in the right hands).

So; why is there such a close lap time between the hot hatches and the S? Is it down to driver ability? I haven't a clue, help!

Hot hatches in the dry, S in the wet?
