Am I missing something???

I can't get my head round the fact that topics like this pop up from time to time.

Surely if you have to ask you should not be anywhere close to a car like the S2000.

Yank's are used to big gas guzzling auto barges.

you'd be surprised at the number of people over here who buy the S2000 as their first manual car. you have to remember, you dont have a separate driving test like the UK does - you can learn in an auto and go straight out and buy a stick.

In fact someone I know was given lessons by the car salesman in the dealer's parking lot, on how to drive stick just after completing the deal!

Bonkers!

Has there ever been any plans to have a test for manual transmissions only?

In the UK, most cars are manual !

... and our driving test reflects that fact !!

People who pass their test in a manual car are licensed to drive autos, but not visa versa

Yes and in the UK if you have got your licence with an automatic, you are only allowed to drive automatics.

You need to re-test for manual. Good idea it seems. I cannot believe the Americans can learn and get their licence with automatics and then go and buy a manual.

I doubt it

you know how in the UK you pay a premium to get an autobox in a car - well over here most cars come in auto and a manual tranny is a premium option!

I just can't believe the conversation about chirping tyres - what do they do, change gear while still keeping their foot flat on the accelerator??!

Either that or they're running slicks in the wet / sheet ice

Or....

maybe he doesn't know that when you're changing gear, you have to lift off the accelerator, not keep it nailed to the floor (like you do in an auto)
