Default Tread depth

Anyone know what the tread depth should be (or is) on a new SO2?

8mm is the figure I've got in the back of my mind from somewhere, but I'm not sure where from

Sounds about right though - a tyre I replaced around 1,500 miles before my last service was marked as having 7mm tread at the service.

I had new S02s put on this morning but I haven't got a tyre gauge, otherwise I'd go and check for you.......

How are the S02's Mark, are they noticeably different from the F1's?

Feeling decidedly more grippy - but then that's probably because my nearside rear was illegal in the amount of tread it had (or more accurately, didn't have) left

I didn't really push them hard though - a combination of wet roads and previous experience of newly-fitted tyres being very oily and slippery meant I took it easy on the way home.

to Britannia Tyres in Coventry, BTW. They not only got the right sort of S02s but did a good job fitting them and were very reasonably priced at

Mark, have you got a number or website or something for Britannia - they sound like the ideal place for me.. much closer than Addison and as cheap.

Here you go, Rob:

Britannia Tyres Ltd
Abbotts Lane
Coventry West Midlands
CV1 4AZ

Tel: 024 7625 6262

Easy to find - it's just off the A4114, the road which the Allesley Hotel XM1 venue is on - go straight on where you turned off for the hotel, towards the city centre, and then turn off just before you reach the ring road.

Ask for Peter - he's very helpful.

Had new rears fitted recently and checked the tread depth when they were fitted - just under 8mm.
