Tread markers
My car is leased and the tyre place is a bit awkward sometimes... only replace when they get to 2mm
Can anyone tell me what the depth is at the tread markers?
If it's only 3mm I am off to do some doughnuts

Very sure its 1.6mm.
As for changing at 2mm - tell them to sod off.
Performance degrades significantly in wet & dry below 3mm.
They are playing with your life mate - get a solicitor.....

My immediate reaction was also 1.6mm, since that's the road-legal limit, but thinking about it it doesn't follow that it's actually that figure that the tread markers show. Tyres presumably aren't manufactured specifically for sale in the UK so, unless the same limit applies elsewhere, would the tyre companies really fix the tread marker depth at the UK limit?
Who knows - but don't let that stop you scrubbing the last bit of tread off with a few donuts, Andy
Just steer clear of cyclists while you're at it

Not sure about the issue about different countries though.
Off to google...
I always thought that the tread markers were 3mm... hope I am wrong!
I have just called ATS (I have to use them) and told them I am on the tread markers and they have just ordered 2 x new rears, will be in on Monday
Should be safe for the Derbyshire meet next weekend now

From the Bridgestone website:
[I]"When is a tyre considered to be worn out?
In Europe, the legal requirement is that the tread grooves retain a certain minimum depth, when measured at any Tread Wear Indicator (TWI), located around the circumference of the tyre. For summer tyres, the figure is 1.6 mm, while for winter models it is 4 mm.
It may nevertheless be advisable to change a tyre at an earlier stage if there is a discernible loss of grip or deterioration in handling performance
