Default tyre bulge

I have just whacked a bolder, or something similar, with the rear tyre going round a tight left hand bend on a local back road on the way home. I have checked and yup there is a slight bulge in the wall of the tyre. It measures 4-5cm and is only slightly raised. Not visually that obvious but you can clearly feel it with your hand. As this is in the wall should I replace it though this would would be a shame as it it is only a few months old so well pissed?

Err! Yes you should replace it, it's damaged. I'd rather spend around a hundred quid on a new tyre than a lot more for a new car.

Yep, replace it. Its where its had such a whack that the air forces it out. The tyre engineers call it 'bruising' if I remember correctly. Change it ASAP.

Gotta agree with everybody.

£100 for a new tyre or £$$$ when you have a blowout on the motorway.

Not even worth asking the question really !

Bharat

PS - my wife did something similar on the Accord. New tyres fitted, within a week, she heard 'a noise' from a tyre, but thought that she would continue driving, so she drove for another 10 minutes on a flat tyre. Result was another new tyre. Oh well, such is life Her comment to me was ' I think there might something wrong witht the car, it made a funny noise, but I continue driving anyway)

Change it... I had a sidewall delaminate on my 200SX although it was on the inside of the wheel so I didn't know it was there until the tyre blew out!

The bulge you can feel is called an impact fracture.......it happens when the tyre takes a localized blow which is hard enough to damage the plys that make up the carcass of the tyre. The bulge you feel is the air thats been forced between the damaged plys. The tyre needs to visit a scrap heap asap
