Tyre choice and Ring trip
Hi all
My tyres are getting a bit shabby now so I'm thinking of replacing them shortly before the Easter Ring trip. My personal preference is to have newer tyres with more grip than shagged old ones that you can burn the arse off (thats not my style of driving anyway and you'll fall off if you try that at the Ring).
Anyhoo, I've been quoted

Ben,
What crossing are you heading over on? I'm likely to be over on the Thursday AM, returning on the Tuesday PM. Which hotel are you staying in?
Re: tyre choice. I'd stick with as Honda intended. Out of curiosity - anyone know if the 2004 spec tyre is available in the appropriate 16" spec?

Why not try Bridgestone S03's. Have used them on the 'S' for the last 30K miles with no complaints. Good tyre in both wet & dry conditions!!!!
Rears (245/45) seem to be a bit more expensive than S02's though!

Ok - in order then:
SiDHEaD - that would explain why the tyre place were a little unsure about being able to get them in that size
HOOBAHOLE - you're not down on the attendees for the Ring Meet (see https://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=250916) - are you coming along separately? Most welcome either way!
I'm coming over from Jersey on Thursday AM and staying over in Liege that night, leaving a short drive to the RIng the next morning. We always stay at the BErghotel Hohe Acht (www.hohe-acht.com) as its reasonably priced, lovely views, great breakfast, english speaking owner, late bar, close to the Ring, etc, etc
LLOYDJ - I wil check out the prices on the S03s but if the S02s are the recommended choices I might just stick with them but more wet grip would be nice...
Cheers all

Its not like a normal UK based airfield type trackday, howling around corners with the arse sideways! Yeah, you will get tyre squeal as you corner quickly and most likely you'll get some rubber beading by the end of the weekend, but unless you do a huge amount of laps, you won't see a lot of tyre wear. Brakes, on the other hand, are another matter altogether!
IMHO I prefer to arrive with fresh rubber, knowing that I'll have optimum grip and (in case of crap weather) a better chance of staying on the track! Plus my current tyres have about 8000 miles on them, with 15,000 on the fronts, so I think a whole new set will see me through 2005 with 2 Ring trips - second one over the August Bank holiday weekend - any takers yet? : )

I am travelling with a separate group but would like to meet up with you lot over there. I'll just collar someone in the car park
I'm staying in the Motorsport hotel in Nurburg.
I've been going over for the past few years but this will be the first trip in the S2000 - so looking forward to it.
Can't commit to an August trip yet, but June/July is a def.
