Default Tyres

Firstly, thanks for all your help guys on how long it takes for new tyres to scrub up.

I had Event Mobile Tyres over on Friday to fit me new two rears - the originals had lasted c. 9k and had started getting a bit squirmy in the wet.

I went on to EMT website and ordered 2 x Bridgestone RE050MZ tyres.

Once the guy had completed the fitting, I noticed the sidewalls were a slightly different shape. It turns out he'd fitted RE050BZ's. I asked him why different tyres were on there and he said they had trouble getting MZ's but these are just the same and Honda specific. I said I thought the MZ's were S2000 specific and it wasn't good enough to have just Honda specific - but he assured me they'd be ok.

Anyway, after doing about 30 miles around town and a few country roads I got on the motorway and the tyres were fairly grippy........until I was going round high-speed bends (c. 70-75mph) on M25 junctions/slip roads. Everytime I turned in, the rear would wobble around and get mushy. I thought it was initially due to them bedding in, but after 200 miles and a return journey today, the same thing was apparent.

Am I imagining this or are the BZ's so different to the MZ's that this could be causing the sloppy handling? The handling is completely different and not at all confidence inspiring. Anyone else experienced similar?

I'm going to call Event Mobile tomorrow to complain given that I explicitly requested MZ's be fitted (it's on my printed order confirmation). If they were having problems sourcing them I'd have preferred to have been called and informed so I could make a decision to wait or go elsewhere.

Not sure how they're going to react, but surely under the Sale of Goods Act, the goods are not as described???? So I should have some comeback??

Thanks in advance for your help.

I wouldn't have let them put those tyres on your car in the first place. One specific tyre is designed for the 04 model onwards and I wouldn't put on anything else unless you wanted to try another type of tyre.

Ring them up and get them all changed

Could be a softer Side Wall and you're feeling it slopping about?

Get them back and have them changed, fact is if you hadn't questioned the tyre you'd never had been told. That's naughty EventMobile!

Call them and get them to swap them. If it's on your order then they have got it wrong!

Good news. Just spoke with chappie at EMT - no argument, he said he would have the tyres changed first thing tomorrow morning.

I didn't even have to moan!

Top job EMT - just a shame it'll be second time around!!

I asked them for a quote for some tyres and they told me that they were no longer available so quoted a differnt type.

I didn't have any problems getting the tyres from another source.

Event are getting sloppy IMO.

Chappie came round this morning to fit new tyres (MZ's this time!).

Eventually conceeded after replacing the tyres, that the sidewalls on the BZ's were far softer (and curved) than the MZ's, which are very stiff and almost vertical. The others also have a very different tread pattern.

Next time I use them I'll be marking something in the Comments section on the order that the tyres MUST be RE050 MZ's and not any other variation.

Far play though - at least I didn't have to argue about getting the right tyres on there, they did it without moaning or trying to wriggle out.
