Default tyres

Ladies and Gentleman advice please.

Just changing from 16s to 17 in the next week or so and I need new shoes.

My experience so far is the old s02 where better then then the current RE50A in the dry as I find the RE50A walls to soft.

I'm guess the RE50A in 17s with be a bit stiffer due to the lower profile.
i'm going for 215\45\17 fronts and 245/40/17 rear so what do you suggest?

Cheers

Stefan

PS how do I change my stupid name tag ?

Oem spec RE050 MZ, you should be able to get them for the back at least and quite probably for front also.

Failing that I was very happy with Goodyear Assymetric at a similar price, in these fitments they are their reinforced hi load tyre so nice stiff sidewalls

RE050s on the 17's are pretty good all round in my experience, other than in snow.

Daily driver for the last 5 years & several trackdays.

Changing your name is done via PMing Aquilaeagle type person. Or maybe one of the other mods can do it too?

I've run them for the past 3 years with no issue. I'm planning to try another tyre on the next change

Cheers for the feedback. Has anyone run RE050s on 16 then gone to 17s?

The Loon what was you thinking of trying.

Cheers for all the feedback.

Goodyear Assyms

the RE050 have a fairly stiff sidewall on the 17" tyre

RE050mz are very stiff walled, and very hard tyres generally, I liked them moving from 16's to 17's but after a year or so running them felt they were too hard, and when cold not very inspring, and when cold and wet I was not very impressed they were damn scarey. I am an advocate for Falken 452's, these have a very stiff tyre wall (in 17's) and give good grip in both the wet and dry conditions, I have been on track and found them excellent and on an equal par with the BS when they were hot too. They wear very well too and are excellent value for money, of course they don't have the 'big' name of Bridgestone, or Goodyear so people are often circumspect and often without justification, but I have used them, and I like them at the very least that gives you an alternative choice maybe ?

Hasn't Falken stopped making the FK452s in 17" OE sizes?

They seem to still be available on event tyres although for how much longer who knows?

I would recommend them also, have had them on for a few months. Worth considering at least as they are also a fair bit cheaper than BS which just happens to be a bonus. I cannot split them and BS, although as they are not OEM and are cheaper I am sure there are plenty of people that will tell you they are inferior just because of this.
