Default Urgent

Hi, I only seem to post on here when I've got a problem (sorry about that) but hopefully someone can help...

I came back from a week away over Christmas to find my (less than one year old) battery flat, now my car won't start, even with jump leads. It's not even trying because I *think* the 3rd party immobilser has gone funky.

When I tried to start the car at first, it gave the usual flat battery signs, then the FF Honda alarm immobilser went crazy so I had to disconnect the battery as I was going away for another three days. I bought jump leads and tried it tonight, when connected, the lights, FF alarm, etc. work fine but when I press the big red button there's nothing

My S has an RAC Trackstar fitted and normally after disabling the FF alarm/immobiliser, I press a button to disable the Trackstar and I can usually hear two clicks....now there's nothing so I assuming it's the Trackstar immobilser that's the problem.

I just called the helpline and they can't/won't help me because I live in Switzerland so didn't keep up the subscription (it would have been useless here). Now they say the car isn't in their system so they don't know which model I've got. That might or might not be true because for all they know I might not be the car owner so it's fair enough really. Btw, I am the car owner, I bought it from Pete Evans (Frenchie, I think he's called on here)

So, does anyone have ANY idea how I can start the car???

Any help would be really really really appreciated!!!

Thanks
Simon

ps. if Aquila or anyone else who knows Pete is around, please could you PM me his contact details if you have them.

Hi Simon,

It does indeed sound like your battery hasn't got enough power to sort out the immobs and trackstar.

More than likely the battery is dead. Are you a member of a breakdown company? they should be able to help you get a new battery if that's the problem.

when you say "nothing" - do you hear the fuel pump going for a few seconds...and then the solenoid clicking??

if yes..then duff battery..but you still be able to jump it off another battery or car as long as that is charged up..

Hmmm, yeah I think I remember hearing the fuel pump, it could be that I couldn't get a great connection on the other car's battery because of the position of it but the lights, etc. were okay so I assume it was okay.

On the first day (before disconnecting the battery), when I pressed the start button it went "click...click...click", classic dead battery sign but since then there's nothing at all when pressing the button, exactly the same as if I hadn't pressed the second immobiliser button.

Gah, I'm not a member of a recovery service over here but the Honda garage who fitted the new battery might be able to help I guess.

Thanks guys, if anyone else has any other thoughts please let me know!

Hi AE

So you lot don't seem to think it's anything more serious than a flat battery *phew*
I'm worried the immobiliser's going to have killed everything because it had no power for a few days and assumed it was being nicked!

On the plate front, out of luck I'm afraid, the DVLA said that there was no way I could transfer or retain the plate without the car being in England, and taxed and tested. Eventually the Swiss police destroyed my reg plates and sent a letter to the DVLA.

So S2000 PE is no more which is a real shame because if I couldn't keep it, I'd have preferred it to have gone to a good home

Thanks for the info for Pete's website.

Have you tried replacing your keyfob battery?

When mine ran down, it was powerful enough to unlock the car, but not turn off the immobiliser.

Yeah, I've got two fobs for each immobiliser and I've tried both. I'm just gonna call the garage who fitted the battery tomorrow and see what they can do.

Thanks everyone, I don't think there's anything I can do until tomorrow now.

I hope I'm not being condescending.

When my battery ran flat I was trying for about 30 mins to charge the battery with jump leads and the symptoms you describe sound the same. I then read the manual where it showed me where to correctly connect the jump leads. As soon as I'd done that it started immediately.

I hope I'm not making myself look stupid

Hope you get a result

Damn, I thought you might have solved it then but I've tried with the jump leads in the right place and it still won't work. The battery is obviously getting charge because the lights, roof, etc. all work perfectly but the car still won't start.

I can't hear the fuel pump which I hope isn't a bad sign...

I spoke to Pete (previous owner) and he seems to think that the RAC Trackstar should be fine with no battery connection (confirmed by their website which says it has it's own battery), but he said he seems to remember talk of problems with the FF alarm/immobiliser if the battery was flat or disconnected. Does that ring any bells with anyone?

When I remove the ignition key, two red LEDs start flashing (I assume the one on the centre console is the FF one) but when I disarm the FF alarm and turn the key to ON, the other LED is permanently red...could that mean that it's "immobilsed"?

Unless you guys have any idea I'm left with explaining all this to an Italian/Swiss mechanic with my pigeon German!

Thanks again
Simon
