Default Using Oil!

Hello,

I have an 2003 s2k with 92,000 on the clock it runs brilliant and does not seem to smoke but it is using a little oil.
Within 2 weeks its dropped to the low mark on the dipstick after i have filled it.

I have only owned an s2k for about 2 months and am not sure if this is normal!!

Thanks, James

Oil usage is normal.

Yours sounds excessive, although it depends if the car was hot or cold and on a level surface when filled up.

James,

Earlier models particularly MY04's and below use a lot of oil (oil jets and design changed), but that seems a bit on the excessive side IMO.

Of course we have no idea what sort of oil you are using and how the car is used/when its last oil change was, and if you measured it level. Switching to better oil will help consumption but not massively unless you are using very poor quality oil.

Cheers

I have done maybe 500 - 600 miles and I do always check the oil on a flat surface but I cant work out where its going I can not see it leaking.
When I bought the car it had only just had a full service throught honda so I am not sure what oil they use but I am using Castrol Edge FST 0w-40w.

Thanks for all your help

0W-40 is too thin IMO...I reckon a fair bit is getting burnt when the engine is cold. Edge 5W-40 would be better.

I recently switched to Motul 8100 X-Cess 5W-40 from Edge 5W-40 and it's been excellent thus far.

You will find many people use different types of oil, and will have varying degrees of consumption. Ignore consumption figures for those who have MY04 +, they have different oil jets. Unless you are a completely blithering idiot, do not compare their consumption with yours.

Stop/start traffic will also hinder your oil supply, motorway mileage at sensible speeds will improve oil economy.

Agreed 0w40 is too thin.

Ok so what would be a normal average amount of oil to be burnt on a MY 04 an under?

I did wonder if it was a little thin I will get hold of some 5w-40 can anyone recommend a good oil??

Castrol edge 5w-40 as already mentioned. £30 4 litres at Costco. Shop around.

I have a 03 ap1... I go tru a 1/2 a qt every 2 weeks... faster if I hit v-tec often... I use 10w-30. Keep an eye on tires and oil... and it's all good. Welcome to the s2k community!
