Using a retention document at DVLA
So I have a retention document for a plate for my S2000, I was wondering if someone could clear up a few things for me.
The Document has been signed by the last owner, so as far as im aware all I need to do is complete the new nominee section with my name, take alone a cheque for £25, take my V5 and current MOT along to the DVLA office and they will transfer the info there and then over the counter.
Is this correct or am I missing something?
Thanks for any advice someone more knowledgable can offer me!

Hi Jaffa, assuming the retention cert is all correct...
You will need to take your tax disc along too as they have to change the reg on it.
Depending on where you go, they may do it there and then IIRC. There are some DVLA offices which can.
Remember to tell your insurance too.

Do I need to use the section to put myself as the Nominee first and pay the £25? Or can I just transfer the plate directly onto the car without doing this? (its all pre signed!)
Instructions on the document are far from clear

IIRC, you will have to get the nominee part changed to your name for £25.
My concern would be that if it was done via the post, then the document would most likely go back to the owner of the document.
Not sure if you can go to a DVLA office & get it changed there & then.
Only the owner of the document, and the authorised nominee can assign the plate to the car.
When we sold a plate a few years ago, we had to change the nominee info by post, and the document came back to us, and then we forwarded it on to the new owner.
It's possible things have changed since then but, I would call up the DVLA office & check before you send the document off.
