Default Using a trolley jack

Where do you put the cup when you use a trolley jack to change wheels?

Looking at the manual, the scissor jack has a slot that fits in the small rails at each end of the sill, but how do you fit a trolley jack here?

Or do you jack up the car somewhere else?

I know you can jack it up at the rear and front, from US threads, but the " side jack " is unclear.

I use the stock jack on the edge of the strengthed area to raise the car 10-15mm, then insert the trolley jack to do the heavy work - it's a bit tight.

My trolley jack cup has slots (indentations) which fit the existing jacking points.

There are two other jacking points - rear diff and front near the engine somewhere. I searched the US forum to find these once - you still have to have the car sufficiently raised to get the jack into position though. (DISCLAIMER: Please check the exact points if planning on using them)

Chris

I noticed that some of the US folk made small ramps out of planks which they drove the car onto first, to give them that extra bit of clearance to use a trolley jack.

I'll just get a trolley jack and try the slots for fit - most cups seem to be the same.

Cheers

Using little ramps works very well - it allows you to get at the main jacking points, front or rear. You can get trolley jacks that are low entry. Mine can reach the rear diff straight off - which is handy. Can't quite reach the front one without ramps though - it's not the jack near the saddle, but further along the arm that just catches. It's a pity that the metal ramps you can buy won't fit under - it'd be nice to have a set. But wood works well. Just remember to have the step low enough to clear the front strakes - not the end of the world if you don't as the strakes unbolt quickly, but easier if you do.

I think your supposed to use chocks Ian - I've got some plastic jobs from Hellfords I carry in the boot, even to use if just jacking up one wheel. Better safe than sorry IMHO.
