Default Very Low Oil...

Accidently allowed the oil to drop a fair way below the L on the dip stick, and must have done a good 100-200 miles with the oil level that low. Realised last night, and got the level right back up again, the car seems to be running fine, no strange noises or smells etc, any ideas if i would have caused permanent damage, or does it sound as though i got away with it??

Hi Paul

As long as the oil warning light works and it did not come on in the last 100-200 miles you travelled there should be no problem.

Get into the habit of checking regularly! And never let it get below the "L" mark!

You should be OK - dealer told me it's only terminal if the stick is completely dry (as happened to one of their customers).

[QUOTE]Oil warning lights are a last resort, they come on IMO when its virtually dry. Mine came on a few years back in a different car and 200 metres later the engine seized

mine used none for the first 1000 I had it, then almost a litre in the second 1000miles. Then 100ml in the last 2500. There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason, just make sure you keep checking it.
